I will say this…. We traded for a pick that was perfectly in our grasp several times this past season lol

If Wilkes had been bad at his job, yes. He was good.

Hope he does well in sf.

You CANNOT be serious about intentionally losing or throwing games. I know you’re not. Right..??

Shades of 1919…..SMH

I know most disagree with me but after sleeping on this trade I still believe it will be crippling to us. With a rookie qb, we will be ba k in the top ten next year if not the top five. If it is Bryce Young will be back there for the next two years and looking for even another QB. My biggest problem is that there is not a franchise qb changer in this draft. Hooker is the best and you could have traded down and picked up assets, Levis you could run with but I think he is there at 9. Stroud will be no more than a Fields. How has that worked out for the Bears, as of today beneficial to the Bears, lol. But he is not a franchise qb

Lastly and I will shut up. Why would you not wait until after their pro days to make a franchise changing trade like this? Incompetent.

Why all the drama?  Not like it hasn’t been done.

And Wilkes is a decent coach, guys, but he ALWAYS INHERITED his team, he hasn’t had a real chance to be a team builder yet to be considered a top coach.

BCF... You asked..."Why all the drama? Not like it hasn't been done."

So, I'll respond to that question/statement, with the same amount of snark it was asked............ *** Just because something "has been done," doesn't mean it "should be done."  And additionally, the 'results' of efforts to manipulate scores and games frequently turn out to have very adverse consequences. AND, adding to that, everyone should remember....those "efforts" to artificially impact scores, games, and thereby manipulate events further 'downstream' like the NFL Draft sequence, is patently and demonstrably illegal. There is no better way to get individuals and TEAMS in very real trouble than to start "manipulating" scores and games.

If anyone here believes differently, or has a general blasé or "no big deal" attitude about this, I urge you to review what happened in the 1919 World Series.  Professional sports has been fighting for a "clean image" for a long time. There is NO REASON to give NFL football, and most especially, the Carolina Panthers a black eye over this issue. Like hanging garlic around a vampire's neck, it would seriously impact the Panthers forever.

I hope that answers your question..."Why all the drama?"

I found it quite strange when Wilks told the team, "We ain't tanking!". I mean, why would he even say that if there wasn't a precedent?

There has frequently been “talk” about such. Mostly, I expect, because “fans” see “tanking” as a way to cheat and ‘win’ something (draft position..??) at any cost. After all, there is no cost or repercussions for the fans. The players and the teams bear the brunt of the ridicule and the shame when exposed. Wilkes said it right….. I’m sure he remembered all the talk around “Tank For Trevor”. How about the “headhunting” down in Saints country. Or “deflategate” up in NE.  Just because it “has been done” doesn’t mean it’s right or SHOULD be done.

I find it difficult to understand why we, as a supposed ‘cultured’ society, will even debate the philosophy of “right vs. wrong”. Play the game to win, always within the rules. Respect the officials, your team and teammates, and the league. Play clean and fair, never subverting the rule of law or game to obtain unfair advantage over another competitor. In other words, do the very best you can within the rules and let the chips fall where they may.

Forgive me if I have already shared this:

The Carolina Panthers may only be temporary holders of the No. 1 overall pick. The Panthers, who acquired the pick as part of a blockbuster trade with the Bears, are not ruling out trading back, according to multiple reports.

Whether or not the Panthers trade the pick will largely come down to which quarterback they want to select. The Panthers are currently trying to decide between drafting Alabama's Bryce Young and Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, according to ESPN. Panthers owner David Tepper reportedly favors Young, while head coach Frank Reich prefers Stroud, per Adam Schefter (h/t Bleacher Report).
