ROSTER MOVES - ALL OF THE LATEST -- CURRENT INFO - Hobbit99 - 07-22-2024

***I WILL TRY TO KEEP THIS CURRENT WITH THE LATEST ROSTER MOVES***

Seven Panthers have been placed on "lists" prior to Camp. One is on the NFI list (Non-Football Injury) and six more on the PUP list (Physically Unable to Perform). Both of these lists are considered to be "active" because players can be brought back at any time.

Jonathon Brooks (RB), was placed on the NFI list. Because his injury (ACL..!!!) happened while in college, before his NFL contract, he was eligible for the NFI list. I'm not sure what exactly the reasoning is, or if there is a benefit from the NFI list over the PUP list. Maybe I'll try to look that up..... maybe.

The other six are all on the PUP list. LBs Amare Barno and DJ Wonnum, OT Yosh Nijman, and WR Jalen Coker were placed on the list on Friday. On Saturday, two more were added to the PUP list. WR Cam Simms and CB Chau Smith-Wade.

Hard to tell exactly what all of this means. Have to wait and see I guess.  I know three of these were sort of expected. Both Amare Barno and Jonathon Brooks were expected to be not available early because of ACL injuries. DJ Wonnum was also expected to be rehabbing early in camp.  Hopefully they'll all be ready to go (at least mostly ready..) before camp winds up. Maybe see some snaps in pre-season..??

PANTHERS ADD WIDE RECEIVER ---

Quote:CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added some depth at receiver Thursday, who also should have some familiarity with the offense.
The team signed wide receiver Deven Thompkins after a workout.

The former undrafted rookie from Utah State spent the last two seasons with the Buccaneers, where he was with Dave Canales and most of the Panthers' current offensive staff.

Quote:The 5-foot-8, 155-pound Thompkins caught 22 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown for the Bucs in 22 games the last two seasons. He also returned kicks and punts for the Bucs.

He was one of the most productive players in college during his time at Utah State. He caught 102 passes for 1,704 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior. He also ran a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at his pro day.

To make room for him on the roster, the team waived/injured rookie defensive lineman Popo Aumavae.

RE: ROSTER MOVES - ALL OF THE LATEST -- CURRENT INFO - Hobbit99 - 07-26-2024

DATELINE: FRIDAY, 26 JULY...

On the first non-(full)practice day of Training Camp, the Panthers have continued juggling the 90 roster. With no (full) practice scheduled today, the team held some meetings and had a couple of walk-throughs in advance of "Back Together Saturday". The Panthers took this opportunity to add four new players....and, of course, to delete four old ones..!!

Quote:CHARLOTTE — The Panthers took advantage of the first day of camp without a full practice to shuffle the roster a bit.

They signed four players on Friday, addressing a few areas of positional need.
The team signed outside linebacker Kemoko Turay, tight end Feleipe Franks, cornerback Kiondre Thomas, and wide receiver Devin Carter.

Turay, a former second-round pick of the Colts, has 12.0 sacks in parts of five seasons. The 29-year-old had a career-best 5.5 sacks for the Colts in 13 games in 2021 and has spent parts of the last two seasons and offseasons with the 49ers and Falcons.

The Panthers have worked out a number of players at that position (among others) in recent days as they look for options at a thin spot. With D.J. Wonnum still on the active/physically unable to perform list, they lack experienced options opposite Jadeveon Clowney.

The 26-year-old Franks was with the Falcons the last three seasons. A former quarterback at Florida, he was also once drafted by the Boston Red Sox. He was converted to tight end in 2022. The Panthers needed some depth there, with Tommy Tremble dealing with a hamstring issue that kept him off the field Thursday.

The 26-year-old Thomas spent the spring in the UFL, and has spent time with the Browns, Chargers and Packers.
Carter's a rookie who played at West Virginia and NC State.

To make room for them on the roster, they placed veteran wide receiver Cam Sims on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and waived safety Clayton Isbell, offensive tackle Christian Duffie, and wide receiver Sam Pinckney.

The team had a pair of walk-throughs Friday in advance of the Back Together Saturday practice at Bank of America Stadium.
