TEAM TROUBLES - ROOKIES - HOLDOUTS - CONTRACTS - Hobbit99 - 06-13-2025 After LP mentioned it, it struck me as a bit of a strange year. There's always some drama around the draft and the rookies and agents trying to insert themselves into things in an attempt to make a "name" for themselves. But this year it seems like there is an inordinate amount of 'stuff' coming up that is not usually part of the conversation. So, lets mention a few things that seem to be raising their ugly heads this year. Contract Disputes; Contract Disputes; Contract Disputes ..... Players who think they're indispensable and "deserve" being treated "special". It's another way to say "entitled". They're SO special that their crap doesn't stink. AND agents are promoting this self-serving behavior even though contract terms for rookies (draftees..), money, language, etc., is written for everyone equally in the negotiated contract between the NFLPA and the NFL. Holdouts are part of "contract disputes" (usually..). This year there are some "notable" holdouts for various reasons... Rookies (draftees) wanting "GUARANTEED MONEY". YES, you heard that right -- having never played a snap of NFL professional football. Other draftees wanting 'special' language in their contract .... even though they are unproven and have NEVER played NFL football. Agents drawing "a line in the sand" and trying to hold up a whole group of draftees from signing their contracts as an expression of "power". Playing "Hardball" with owners and teams over 'special considerations'. So far this year, there are forty (40) rookie draftees that are unsigned. Of these, four (4) are 1st round selections. There are six (6) unsigned 4th round selections. There are no 3rd rounders left unsigned. BUT -- there are thirty (30) 2nd round selections who thus far have refused to sign their rookie contracts. In the first round, there is #2 Travis Hunter (Jaguars) - no one seems to know why. ??? There is #17 Shemar Stewart (Bengals) - There is a LOT of crap being thrown about by the agent about this one. There is #20 Jahdae Barron (Broncos) - Unknown ??? There is #30 Maxwell Hairston (Bills) - Unknown ??? Of the six 4th rounders... There are #103 Chimera Dike (Titans); #104 Bhayshul Tuten (Jaguars); #105 Cam Skattebo (Giants); #106 Craig Woodsen (Patriots); #107 Jack Kiser (Jaguars); #109 Deone Walker (Bills); #113 C.J. West (49ers). I know there are seven (7) listed here, one or more of them have potentially signed. That leaves thirty (30) more rookie draftees unsigned. These are ALL 2nd rounders, to include the Panthers Nic Scourton. The easiest way is to mention that only TWO (2) 2nd round selections have signed. Those are Jayden Higgins (Texans), and Carsen Schwessinger (Browns) at the top of the 2nd (#33, #34). These were (apparently) "fully guaranteed" contracts. As you can imagine, this started a landslide of "ME TOO" contract demands by the agents who decided to pounce on the opportunity --- and ALL of the rest of the 2nd round remains unsigned... There are more stories to be told as well. I'll probably add some more, but you guys jump in here too. All the weird and unusual stuff showing up this year. This is the place for it...
