My 1st hospital experience...Round 2 - Ladypanther - 07-30-2025

Been out of commission for a few days.  Had some issues we were trying to address as an outpatient...things just worsened...last Fri night was the worst...Sat morning I drug myself to my doc's office (they have a same day clinic till noon with only 1 provider working)  lucky to get an appointment...she sent me to ER  Those people were great...did a big workup...said I needed more testing and assesment/treatment...and strongly recommended that I agree to admission.

They helped me a lot...and I cannot say enough good things about how I was cared for (well...the food service could stand some improvement). I was amazed at the quality of care. A lot has changed over the years.

My situation seems to be a very "complex" one.  I am much improved and pointed in the right direction.  But s lot more follow up to be done.

Will say more about a few things (some humorous) later.  Right now going to try to drag my butt to work for a few hours.  At least I sit at a desk.

Glad to see all the Panther posting...going to take me some time to catch up!

Oh no! I hope they get everything sorted out and fixed for you and that you start feeling better soon! I have been out of work since I broke my neck on May 29th, but am scheduled to return to work on August 11th. I can't wait! Will be praying for you and your doctors (and nurses and technicians)! Thanks for letting us know!

Some things have improved but this is a process.  Had a cardio consult and he said he thinks this is a result of several different things coming together....all of which he has not figured out.  There are more referrals and tests as an outpatient.

When the cardiologist left my room the first time, I heard him tell someone that I am interesting.  Next thing you know, he sent in his PA to do an eval.  The next day his medical student came in to do an eval.  When I saw him yesterday...he had a wad of students with him. A lot going on for a small town hospital (Morganton).  The hospital just received a level III trauma designation for the ER....built a new ER and wing (I was in a huge new room).  I think that whole process had improved the entire place. (Except for food services).

The hospital I was in was Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, and they were the BEST I have ever experienced.  Can't say much for the food - I could not eat anything for four days after I broke my neck.  I was Starving Marvin lol.

I was wondering if you had disappeared or had been kidnapped. Thank goodness that wasn't the case.!!  The state of medical care in the U.S. has really improved in the past 20 years. There have been a lot of advancements in care as well as protocols. I am really pleased that you are receiving quality care.  I KNOW what being a 'guinea pig' is like. I went through a bunch of well-meaning, training hospitals in the military and was constantly surprised at the quality of care. Thank goodness we live in a country where high-quality medical care is the rule rather than the exception.

Please don't eat the candy, or drink any bad water --- otherwise do what the doctor tells you. Prayers for a quick and complete recovery.

Thanks Hobs.  I am being a good girl...doing exacts as told. My life has changed...including my diet which was already weird. (Celiac and vegetarian)  Not even an occasional drink of bourbon.  Changes are easier when you know they are important.

I knew you would miss me....lol.  Very glad to be back.

Thanks Josh.  AM improving...going to take a bit more time to get back to myself...but still am working (work 1/2 days...mostly at a desk).

Ever tried to eat a low sodium diet?  Reading labels for sodium content is a shock.

Should be off IR well in time for football season.

GO PANTHERS!

RE: My 1st hospital experience.. Now.....Round 2..UGH - Ladypanther - 08-12-2025

Had a hiccup and back in hospital Sunday.  It seems I am complicated.  ER doc said if my sodium level had been 1 point lower he would have put me in ICU per protocol.  Have a couple of really good hospitalists who are treating me aggressively but have to raise sodium at a slow steady pace.  I am 3 points from the goal I need to leave...came up 2 points yesterday.  We all agree to fix this.....make a good detailed plan for when I leave and NEVER COME BACK!!!!!!

Travis...I am going to get in game shape and ready for active roster. Get the duct tape ready!

You learn to appreciate little things.  My doc let me go outside for a few this afternoon which was great!  I have a big bowl of Hershey's Kisses in my room to give chocolate to all my wonderful nurses and helpers.  They are all so kind and good at what they do.
