PANTHERS CUT WR DAVID MOORE - PantherFan007 - 09-01-2021

Carolina Panthers Have Released Veteran Wide Receiver (msn.com)

The Carolina Panthers are looking to reshape their offense in year two under Matt Rhule, after trading for quarterback Sam Darnold. Veteran wide receiver David Moore won’t be part of the equation.

As teams trim down their roster ahead of the coming regular season, the Panthers have let Moore go. He departs without ever appearing for the Panthers, after signing a two-year deal worth $4.75 million back in March.

Moore caught three passes for 45 yards during the team’s preseason. Unfortunately for him, the Panthers are relatively well stocked at the wide receiver position. DJ Moore and Robby Anderson are locked in starters, and Terrace Marshall Jr., a rookie out of LSU, has been one of the surprises of the summer for Carolina.

Marshall, who was selected 59th overall in April’s 2021 NFL Draft, has been one of Carolina’s best playmakers during the preseason. He caught nine passes for 181 yards and a touchdown, and has impressed throughout camp. The Carolina Panthers’ release on the Moore move directly cites Marshall’s breakout as a reason for cutting the veteran.

At 26 years old, we should still see David Moore get an opportunity to catch on somewhere. The former seventh-rounder spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks.

From 2017-20, he caught 78 passes for 1,163 yards and 13 touchdowns. He proved himself as a solid touchdown threat, with five scores in 2018 and a career-high six in 2020. He also has experience in the kick return game from his time with Seattle.

We’ll see if he catches on anywhere in time for Week 1, which begins in just over a week.
