WORLD SERIES -- ASTROS -- NO HITTER..!! - Hobbit99 - 11-03-2022 Only the second World Series No-Hitter in history.. This time, the Houston Astros blanked the Phillies. The last time (1956..!!) it was the Yankees blanking the Dodgers. There is a difference though. In fact, there are TWO very real differences. In 1956, Don Larsen, pitching for the NY Yankees in the World Series, threw the no-hitter against the Dodgers. And here is the 1st difference.... Larsen's no-hitter was a "Perfect Game". No runs, no hits, no errors, NO WALKS, -- NO runners on base at all. Nine innings, all batters retired on outs, ... PERFECT. This game was a no-hitter, but it was NOT a "Perfect Game". The second difference, and perhaps more important, this game was a combined no-hitter. The starting pitcher for the Astros, Cristian Javier, pitched six innings of no-hit ball. He then gave up the mound to a "reliever", who also gave up the mound to a reliever, who ALSO was relieved, and the fourth pitcher for the Astros completed the game. Even so.... The game will go down as a World Series No-Hitter .... as it should. No-hitters are tough. And rare. AND exceedingly so in the World Series. Only TWO in the entire history of the game.!!! Congratulations... |
