PANTHERS MAKE LINEBACKER MOVE... - Hobbit99 - 03-10-2023
In an apparent move to free up some more cap room, the Panthers have released LB Damien Wilson. Wilson played very little last year, especially in the last half of the season. THIS is a bit surprising to me because the Panthers are somewhat 'needy' at the LB position. There must be plans afoot to bolster the position that did NOT include Wilson.
My biggest question is how this affects the 3-4 base package that will be used next year. Of course, it's NOT really that big of a problem. The Panthers are actually IN their "Base Defense" less than 20% of the time. So, I don't worry too much about "Base" defenses anyway.

I'm sure the conversation probably went something like, "Who did we use least last year?" "Damien Wilson". "Welp. Looks like he's going to be playing less now" lol

Yeah, there is some talk.... I'm not sold on it though. Shaq has already volunteered (vocally) that he wouldn't be opposed to "helping" out contract wise. He realizes that we need space to operate and sign players. It's not so much the money as the cap space. I think a lot would depend on his net "value" to another team. Fitts is not afraid to make a move. Obviously.....
