The Panthers have made roster moves on 24 players so far this morning, parting ways with several well known names.

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers did the bulk of their cuts before practice Tuesday morning but still have some work to do later in the day to get to the 53-man roster limit.

The Panthers made moves with a total of 24 players early Tuesday, leaving them three moves to make prior to the 4 p.m. deadline.

Right guard Austin Corbett was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. That was expected, after he suffered a torn ACL in last year's finale and continues to rehab. He'll miss at least the first four games.

Defensive end Henry Anderson was placed on injured reserve.

They also waived or terminated the contracts of the following 22 players: running back Spencer Brown; wide receivers Shi Smith (2021 Fourth Round Draft Pick), Javon Wims, and Josh Vann; offensive linemen Justin McCray, Michael Jordan, Deonte Brown (2021 Sixth Round Draft Pick), Sam Tecklenburg, and JD Direnzo; defensive lineman Raequan Williams; outside linebackers Kobe Jones, Eku Leota, and Jordan Thomas; inside linebackers Deion Jones, Brandon Smith (2022 Fourth Round Draft Pick) and Ace Eley; safety Eric Rowe (that didn't last long); and cornerbacks Keith Taylor, Stantley Thomas-Oliver (2020 Seventh Round Draft Pick), Herb Miller, Mac McCain, and Mark Milton.

The team will practice early this afternoon, and head coach Frank Reich is scheduled to talk to reporters afterward.

The Panthers also traded for Chiefs wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette late Monday night, adding a return man to the mix in a swap of conditional 2025 seventh-round picks.

I see our guy Spencer Brown on that list. Dang it. I hope he catches on with another squad. And that guy Ricky Lee is still alive and in fact should probably be starting if I state the truth.

Me, too.  Dang I had hoped we could keep him.  The kid did nothing but ball every opportunity he had.

So, like the first group of 11 "cuts", who on this list was a "surprise" cut.?? And who was maybe a "disappointment".??

I'll put DE Henry Anderson on the "surprise" list even though he wasn't really "cut". Sent to IR before the magic date, it effectively ended his season for the Panthers. He could still go to another team if he reaches an "injury settlement" with the Panthers. Surprised.?? Well, yeah. i know he hurt his 'foot' against the Jets, but was it that bad.??
Also... G Austin Corbett starts the year on the PUP list. I know he was doing extremely well, "better than expected". Still, he starts on the PUP, so that means he misses the first four weeks (by rule..). This is a disappointment.

So... Surprises.  Hmmm.... Not too many. I'll say that C Sam Tecklenburg was a surprise along with **maybe**  LB Brandon Smith and OLB Kobe Jones, and possibly CB Keith Taylor.  That's about it......

Disappointments.??  Oh yeah.!!  First, RB Spencer Brown. Not a "surprise" because we kept Gio..Ricci as a "proven" Power Back, but definitely a disappointment. Brown seemed to have a lot of potential. I actually would have preferred to keep Brown instead of Ricci....our TE room looks really solid. LB Brandon Smith is a "disappointment" AND a "surprise". OL Deonte Brown has always been a "disappointment". I had high hopes for him. OL Michael Jordan, regardless of his name, has always been a disappointment as well. WR Shi Smith has never settled in either. Very disappointing.

So overall, most of these cuts were expected (sort of...). Only three or four that I would call surprises (not counting Henry Anderson). And Spencer Brown and Brandon Smith were real "disappointments" to me.

Cam Erving released. Meaning Ricky Lee made the squad. (And maybe the best tackle we have on the team).

Good for him!  Lee did a good job showing how talented he was, and as we all know, a LOT of very talented guys don't get drafted.  (HOOOOOOOVerrrrr) :)

Yeah...... AND...... a lot of POORLY qualified guys DO get drafted and flop miserably.

Still..... it says a lot when 32 teams pass on a guy 7 times each, and an additional 30-40 Compensatory Picks are selected and a certain, particular player is NOT selected.  In short.... 32 teams are not wrong 7-8 times each in a given draft. At least, not normally.....
Huh
