I know 007 is a veteran, as am I. He and I shared a duty station in Mainz, Germany. FAAF (Finthen Army Airfield). Our memories are slightly different, We weren't there at the same time.

I almost never talk about these things and probably shouldn't now. I will say this. I was an Army pilot. Flight officers are a different breed. We share an outlook that borders on fanaticism. Struggle with minutia and are detail oriented. I came home from Finthen on a MedEvac flight to WRAMC (Walter Reed Army Medical Center). My wife followed me home some months later. She was also a pilot (and coincidentally), a MedEvac pilot. We lived on the German economy in Mainz-Gonsenheim. In the mornings, she went one way toward Frankfort (Rhein/Main Air Base) while I went the other toward Mainz-Finthen. She flew MedEvac while I flew Attack and trained pilots in IMC flight.

She is buried at Arlington. A victim of a down-sized Army (a RIF). She couldn't handle the strain.  Suicide ...

The military is supposed to be tough. Ready to go, fight, and die at any time. And for the most part, we are. But at times like this, I can't help feeling a little sad.  OK..... Enough of the maudlin crap.

Thanks again, LP. You are part of what's RIGHT with this country.

Thank you for YOUR service!  I made a couple of good friends, Warrant Officers, who were Huey Pilots.  Good guys, great officers!  I WAS STATIONED AT MAINZ-FINTHEN!  I know Finthen Army Airfield all too well!!!!

I am so sorry to hear about your wife.   Heart
