SO... What has happened (is happening..) with the roster..?? The very first thing to notice is the Panthers are down one player, now sitting at 89. Panthers CB, Rashawn Melvin, has officially retired (apparently..). That leaves a vacant spot.

Scott Fitterer has mentioned a couple of times wanting to bring in some more competition for the D-Line. His latest press conference at Wofford included a few hints about potential future moves. He mentioned wanting a 'big guy' and another 'pass rusher'. Whether both of those attributes can be had in ONE player, or would require TWO additions to the roster is yet to be determined.  In any event, Melvin's retirement opens up one spot. A second addition would require 'firing' someone. Who would "leave"..??? Unknown..

After Fitterer mentioned "looking" for D-Linemen, reports started to indicate possible interests. Fitterer mentioned yesterday that he had made some "calls". A couple of those guys have previously been here to Carolina for 'interviews' and possibly 'physical exams'. The two most frequently mentioned are Carlos Dunlap...&...Danny Shelton. Both of these guys have made "visits" here. I would expect something to happen soon (If it's going to happen at all..).

Another "source" indicating the Panthers are looking strongly at Carlos Dunlap. Dunlap, one of two names tied closely to the Panthers, has visited previously although no decision had been made.  Here is what Cat Crave had to say.

After CB Rashawn Melvin retired a few days ago, and CB JayCee Horn on the PUP list for now, the Panthers decided to add another CB to the room. So Friday the Panthers signed 26 Y.O. CB Duke Dawson to the roster. Dawson spent the last three years with the Broncos after being drafted in the second round by the Patriots.

I was actually expecting to hear about a D-Line signing.....maybe two. Evidently Rhule is more concerned about the DBs...

THE LATEST ROSTER NEWS..

Another small move on the roster today. The Panthers have signed rookie FA CB, Devin Jones. Jones played at UNC-Pembroke as a CB and a ST Kick Returner. Apparently pretty effective as a Returner.
To make room on the roster, the Panthers have waived rookie WR, Andrew Parchment.

After two recent CB signings (Duke Dawson & Devin Jones..) the Panthers are apparently thinking ahead to another move. Announced today, the Panthers have waived LS (Long Snapper..) Thomas Fletcher. Fletcher was a 6th round draftee in 2021 but was injured early and spent the year on IR.

This move will free up one spot on the roster to add some depth.  Where, you ask.?? Good question.  I keep thinking the Panthers will bring in some D-Line help, especially since they worked out two guys recently. But it may be that they are more interested in more CB help...??? One of the new guys, Duke Dawson, is already injured. This, along with Keith Taylor Jr.'s injury, might mean the team wants some more camp help at CB.

The next week or so will tell the tale. After next week the roster will be firming up and the team will be getting ready to play some pre-season games.  Just have to wait and see how things go for a few weeks.

ANOTHER roster move today (late Thursday..)....

Late Thursday the Panthers have announced the signing of another Free Agent. Signed today was CB Tae Hayes. Hayes was drafted in 2019 and played briefly with Jacksonville, Miami, and Minnesota. He was on the Panthers practice squad at the end of last year.

This makes the third CB signed this week.  I don't know what to think.!!
