Looks like a done deal. Quite surprising. They must be looking for more from Tommy Tremble, but yeah, I know we need a starting cornerback.

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers are going to be without their top-10 pick cornerback for a while.

So they went and got another one.

In response to the broken foot suffered by rookie Jaycee Horn, the Panthers on Monday traded for some help at the position.

They sent tight end Dan Arnold and a third-round pick to Jacksonville in exchange for cornerback C.J. Henderson and a fifth-round pick.

Henderson was the Jaguars' first-round pick in 2020 (ninth overall), but that was a pick made by a previous administration there.

He'll turn 23 this week. He started eight games last year before going on injured reserve with a groin injury. He had an interception and a forced fumble during his rookie year.

The 6-foot, 204-pound Henderson has the kind of athletic profile the Panthers like, and the kind of size to allow them to keep playing the kind of defense they want to.

He ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine, and had a 37 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot, 7-inch broad jump.

The Panthers still have Donte Jackson in the starting lineup, and A.J. Bouye is expected to return to the field soon. He was inactive Thursday against the Texans, after he only had one day of practice before the short-week game. That one practice was the only one he's had since early in camp since he suffered a soft-tissue injury. They also have rookie Keith Taylor Jr. and second-year corner Stantley Thomas-Oliver III on the active roster at the moment.

Arnold was signed this offseason in free agency, and he had seven catches for 84 yards in the first three games.

With the emergence of rookie tight end Tommy Tremble as a receiver and a runner (a 30-yard reception last week in addition to his 7-yard touchdown run), the Panthers were more willing to part ways with Arnold, who was brought here to add a receiving element to the position.
