Gosh yes. The guys getting "cut". Most of them came to camp knowing they had little or no chance to make the roster. They were simply "camp fodder". A warm body put in place to feed the animals. BUT...some of them.... There are a few who had genuine hope. A few who just needed one thing to go their way What they received instead was "Sorry, Charlie.... No room at the inn this year."
Most of them will fade into obscurity. A few will hang on, catch a break with a team somewhere. Those lucky few will hang around as PS guys or be "picked up" at a later time when injury forces a team to go 'searching'. Some of those 'few' will make it.... but sadly, not many.
It's a harsh reality folks. A 90 man roster gets cut down to 53. That math is simple enough. LOTS of attrition in this game every year. Sad, really. And yes, 007, there is definitely a bunch of nepotism.. "Here" is no different than "There." Who you know will sometimes take precedence over "what" you know. A "flawed" system begets flawed, under-prepared, players. But not for long..
