NEW "Word of The Day"
While reading a novel about a game warden out west fighting crime and forest fires at the same time, I ran across this word which I had to look up. I "expected" it to be something like this, just based on the context of the reading, but I wasn't sure. So now I know...
serotinous -- remaining closed on the tree with seed dissemination delayed or occurring gradually (pine cones in fire) (Jack Pine or Lodgepole Pine are good examples).
I realized that certain conifers cones had to be exposed to fire before re-seeding occurred. Just never imagined it would have it's own word....
