Free Agency doesn't start until the beginning of the new contract year. This season, that is on March 12, at 4:00 PM. Deals can be made in the two days immediately preceding March 12. So, starting on March 10, the legal "tampering period" is in place. Contracts can NOT be signed, but agents can discuss players and contracts and make tentative "deals" to be signed after 4:00 PM on the 12th.

So far, the Panthers have resigned LS, JJ Jantzen about a week ago. Today, they announced that the Red Rifle, QB, Andy Dalton has re-signed for two years. So the backup QB position is in place. That doesn't mean the Panthers won't look at QBs in the draft, but it does mean that there is no real panic involved.

So, for the moment the Panthers list of signings (not including "futures") include:

LS, JJ Jantzen
QB, Andy Dalton

It should be noted here that the Panthers can sign ONLY their own players at this point -- until the new league year starts. This is because current players, even Panthers Free Agents are still under contract until the contract year expires... (which is when the NEW contract year starts.!!).

*** MY LATEST COUNT SHOWS AT LEAST 28 MORE CURRENT PANTHERS WHO ARE FREE AGENTS THIS YEAR

If you know of anyone else who has signed (current Panthers players..) -- jump in here and let us know.!! I might have missed some.

Andy brought the family for his signing.  Cool.  Heard an interview with him yesterday on Sirius Radio.  Sounds like a great guy.  He is really dedicated to helping Bryce. Glad he will still be on the team.

GREAT PICS, LP..!!!

Yes, Andy Dalton was a great pickup. Terrific guy and great teammate. Hope he stays here for awhile.!!

I wouldn't be upset to see us draft a QB though -- maybe like Riley Leonard (Notre Dame)...???  I think he's going to be a good one.

Some team (GB I think) believes you should draft a QB every year.  You never know wen a hidden gem will come along.  (Think Jake, Russell Wilson) Hopefully we can stumble on good depth for that position.

I know the Jets sure do, but they couldn't hit a target if they were in the Target parking lot lol

Yep, not unexpected. MIKE Jackson is the real deal -- IMHO.
We're gonna lose a bunch more before free agency and the draft.  And early in the new contract year as well.

OK... So we'll add Cade Mays and LaBryan Ray to the short list of Panther players who have re-signed or are "obligated" in some way. Mays is a RFA and has been "tendered". Doesn't mean that he won't sign somewhere else, but the Panthers have the right to "match" any offers, the right of first refusal.
Ray is an "ERFA" (Exclusive Rights Free Agent), and he was also "tendered".

So, NOW...  Re-signed or Tendered.....

JJ Jantzen
Andy Dalton
Cade Mays
LaBryan Ray

OK...

Here's the latest on our own players as we get ready to enter free agency. The legal 'tampering' period begins Monday the 10th, when teams can legally talk with players and agents about deals and contracts --- just NO signings.  New contracts can be finalized and signed on the 12th, starting at 4:00 PM. Officially, that represents the start of the new contract year.

Austin Corbett is the latest to agree to a new contract.

Later Addition -- ALSO: Tommy Tremble and the Panthers 'Agree To Terms'.

Panthers players who have re-signed or been tendered-- OR -- have agreed to do so...

JJ Jantzen
Andy Dalton
Cade Mays
LaBryan Ray
Austin Corbett
Tommy Tremble
