The NFL informed teams in a memo Wednesday the salary cap is projected to rise again in 2025 between the range of $277.5 million to $281.5 million per club this upcoming offseason.

The information comes ahead of next week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, set to take place from Feb. 27 to March 2.

Last year’s salary cap was set at $255.4 million — making for a jump of between $22.1 million and $26.1 million in 2025. The figure is below the cap increase for 2024 of $30.6 million — the 2023 cap was $224.8 million — but does make for a rise of, at minimum, nearly $53 million over the past two seasons. The new projection also means the cap will have risen over $20 million for the third time in four years and marks the fourth straight season that the salary cap has increased.

The salary cap range is subject to change based on negotiations with the NFL Players Association, but the league expects those talks to wrap next week, per the memo.

Good news on 1 hand but also some teams in good cap situation will offer even more insane contracts to top free agents.

An increase in the salary cap has always been viewed as a positive thing.  And, in general, I still think it is, mostly just to combat inflation.  However, your point is well made. The unrelenting upward spiral of contracts must reach a tipping point at some level. I'm not sure where that point is, but if this mess doesn't slow down, the game will price itself out of reach. For a lot of "fans" it's already out of reach.!!

Yes.... There are teams that have some significant cap space left from last year to rollover to the new year.  But, OTOH... there are teams like the Saints who are so, SO, deep in cap hell they may never dig themselves out. Last I read, the Saints were -$51 Million going into this year. That's $51 M in the hole before the year starts.!! They've been kicking this can down the road for several years. It's going to catch up with them.!!  They are going to have to do some major re-structuring AND shed some high-priced players.....before the new contract year.

We're not too bad. We're not in great shape, but we're not in the hole.!!

I have been hearing for years how the Saints are in cap hell and it is going to catchup with them. Then somehow they are able to put some big money into contracts.  Whatever trick the GM knows,  (some magic trick...has to be) they somehow survive,

Yes New Orleans is a disaster, I love it actually. But why would Kellen Moore take that job with the situation they are in? Talk about a total rebuild, I see no other way out for them. The this next year will be really difficult for the a$$hO1e fans to live through. Yes, outside the Jets they have the worse fans in football all. IMO.
