NFL world reacts to Christian McCaffrey reports (msn.com)

It was a rough 2021 NFL season for Carolina Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey (seen above in a 2019 game) injured his ankle in a Week 12 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, ultimately putting an end to his season.

McCaffrey has been one of, if not the best, running backs in the league when healthy, but has only played in 10 games in the past two seasons due to injuries.

There have been rumors surfacing the past couple of weeks that the Panthers could be looking to move McCaffrey to cash in on the potential value that he has left in a trade. Reports Tuesday indicated that the Panthers are not actively looking to trade McCaffrey, but have received multiple calls about the star running back.

While trading him may not be at the front of their minds, they are also reportedly listening to these offers and would consider a trade if it involved a first-round pick and another player without a big salary-cap number.

A first-round pick for someone of McCaffrey’s skill set is not outlandish. But the determining factor is whether or not teams believe that the injuries and heavy workload that he has received in the NFL to this point are adding up on his body.

If he can stay healthy, he can certainly make a team a real contender if they have the roster built outside of the running back position.

Sources - Carolina Panthers listening to trade offers on RB Christian McCaffrey (espn.com)

David Newton

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Multiple teams have called the Carolina Panthers about a possible trade for Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey, a league source confirmed.

Although the Panthers aren't looking to unload McCaffrey, multiple league sources said they would consider a deal if offered a first-round pick and another player without a big salary-cap number.

McCaffrey, 25, has four years remaining on his contract, which was extended last offseason, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, with an average salary of $16 million. He has a 2022 salary-cap number of $14,309,500 that jumps to $17.7 million the next two seasons.

The Panthers currently have $26,529,771 in cap space, according to league data.

Will the Panthers take quarterback Kenny Pickett or Malik Willis at No. 6?

In 2019, McCaffrey became the third back in NFL history to have 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season. The other two were Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk.

I don't think that will ever happen---at least this year. McCaffrey is the #1 RB in the league. As long as the Panthers continue to make use of a strong running game, McCaffrey will probably stay put. These noodle-heads talking crap about trading for a 1st round pick..... Really.?? Since when is a college player, a zero-snap rookie, valued the same as an all-pro veteran.?? I don't know, I don't 'get it'. Color me "confused". Anyway, I would be totally surprised, flabbergasted, whatever....if McCaffrey went anywhere this year. Maybe my 'view' changes next year. Who knows?

Oh... To the question asked in the second post about QBs...... The answer is NEITHER ONE.! There is NO QB is this years draft worth a #6 pick. If the Panthers trade back about 10-15 picks, MAYBE then---MAYBE.

Hate to say it, and I’ll hate to see Run CMC go, but he’s hardly been the best back in the league from the sideline. He’s worth more trading him.
