Thought I would start a thread topic here about Baker Mayfield. It's not like we have enough to talk about anyway. Baker is a 'Hot Commodity'.!!! Joker

Whether you're a Baker FanBoy or not, there will be plenty of 'News' and 'Reports' and 'Innuendo' coming our way over the next weeks and months. So I thought I would start this topic rolling by saying ..... "Baker Mayfield was viewed as 'Childish and Immature' by the Browns".  Now that the deed is done, and the contract is 'Official',  all of the 'interesting' stuff will come to light.!!

In any event, this particular 'situation' is apparently not a statistical anomaly. Word around the camp is Mayfield is a little prone to tantrums or little boy grievances that did not particularly endear him to the coaches or the rest of the players.

Panthers and Baker Mayfield in UNCHARTED TERRITORY...!!!

Well, maybe.....possibly..???

But, I like this statement better......."If one man's trash is another man's treasure, then the Carolina Panthers must double as a waste management company."      This is a 'cutesy' slam at the Panthers of course, but there has been a little of this 'truth' manage to work it's way into the Panthers organization over the years.  I had a real hope (and desire..) to see Tepper rebuild this franchise into a competitive organization. Then maybe we could compete against the larger market teams for players and at the same time be respected for being a TEAM that values it's people.

Oh well. The jury is still out on those goals.  Anyway, according to Panthers Wire the team is in (almost..) "uncharted territory." This, because we now roster the top two QBs (#1 & #3 Overall..) from the same draft year (2018..). So... two of the top three players in the draft of 2018 on the roster at the same time.  Hmmm.... It's REALLY hard to see something like that happening.!!  Never-the-less, there it is. In fact, it HAS happened one other time. Back (WAY Back..) in 1980, 42 years ago, the Oakland Raiders pulled this off with QBs Dan Pastorini and Jim Plunkett...

Here is the story for your reading pleasure....

PANTHERS WIRE:  "Uncharted Territory" (almost..)

I read both articles the other day, and the most compelling one was where his former teammates alluded to him being immature and childish at times. I didn't want this trade from the onset, but that didn't make me want it any more.

Yep....
He acts like a spoiled brat at times. Running around, slamming the football against the stadium walls, acting like a kid who owns the football and will take it home if you don't let him play HIS way. No signs of maturity at all.....yet. You have to EARN respect. He hasn't yet accomplished that.
An average to maybe, MAYBE, slightly above average QB. He has one year here under contract. Then we'll see what happens....

Cool!

Well, I can't tell you yet ... but how about a clue that will give you no help whatsoever:

The same year that we had both of them, we also considered signing, and even met with the #3 pick of the same draft.

OK, here's a real clue:

Both players ended their careers being famous for sacks. One of them was famous for giving and the other for receiving them.

Yep... I figured it out last night  (TOO late to come here .. HA.!!)

SO...From the 2002 draft class we have #1 Overall David Carr. AND we have #2 Overall Julius Peppers.. Although they were drafted 1-2 in 2002, they didn't get together on the same roster here until 2007. The #3 from 2002 was Joey Harrington, also a QB. It's interesting that you said we were talking to him. I really don't remember ANYTHING about Harrington, although he signed with Atlanta that year (2007..) to be backup for Michael Vick....so we COULD have been talking to him....he was available anyway early that year.

Another interesting point that year (2007..).  In addition to David Carr, #1 from 2002, we also had ANOTHER #! Overall on the roster that year.  Enter the #1 Overall from 1987, Vinny Testaverde. Testaverde was signed to the roster in 2007 when Jake Delhomme injured his elbow, and David Carr was hindered with a sore back.

Wow..... 2007 was a crazy year.!!

I don't know how many of you have seen this..... BUT, you really ought to watch.!!

Skip Bayless is an ass. Shannon Sharpe is a counterpoint to Skip. If I had to choose, I would take Shannon Sharpe......

Anyway, this is a classic argument about Baker Mayfield, the Browns, the Panthers, and ......... the future..???

Take a few minutes and watch this. It's almost hilarious.!!!  ENLARGE this up to "FULL SCREEN" for the best effect.!!!
