PANTHERS 90-MAN ROSTER (INCLUDING ALL FINAL CUTS...)

Today, Tuesday, the Panthers released their first Depth Chart of 2022. The following is what it looks like for all 90 players currently on the Training Camp Roster.  As we all know, the roster will be trimmed to 53 players on the Cut-Down date. There are three cut-down dates this year. On August 16th the roster cuts down to 85 players. On August 23rd the roster cuts down to 80 players. And on August 30th, the BIG cut will happen, down to 53 players.

Several positions on the OFFENSE this year show multiple players at one spot on the depth chart. The C position is "tied" between Elflein and Bozeman. The #2 RB slot is "tied" between Foreman and Hubbard. And the QB slot is "tied" between Mayfield and Darnold.

Effective today (Thursday..), the Panthers have waived CB Devin Jones .. & .. LB/DE Jacob Tuioti Mariner. to make room for two TEs. The Panthers added TE Nate Becker and TE Ryan Izzo.

The roster remains at 90 as of now.

Effective today (Sunday A.M.) the Panthers have made their first cuts. They wanted to get it done before worrying about preparation for next week's practices with the Patriots. So, it's a couple of days early. The Panthers have waived (OFFENSE..) OL Wyatt Miller, TE Nate Becker, and RB Darius Bradwell. (DEFENSE..) CB Chris Westry, and LB Kamal Martin.

These moves leave the roster at 85. The next scheduled cut down will be on August 23rd after the Patriots game, when the roster must cut down to 80. Then one final cut on August 30th down to the final 53.

Effective Wednesday after Patriots practice.....

The Panthers have added LB Josh Watson as a FA signing. Watson was on Panthers Practice Squad last year. Watson played two years with the Broncos and also spent some time with the Charges and the Texans.  Watson is probably just a "place-holder" for the next couple of pre-season games to help absorb some of the practice iterations before week one. There are two more "cuts" coming down the road. First one on August 23rd, and then the last BIG one on August 30th. Watson could have a 'future' on the Practice Squad again this year. The next two weeks will tell the tale.

To 'make room' on the 85 roster, the Panthers released TE Ryan Izzo. Izzo was just 'added' last week, so his time here was decidedly "short", so to speak. That means both of the TEs that the Panthers 'added' last week have now been 'UN-added' this week. Some of this will "shake out" over the next week or so in preparation for the roster 'cut-down' to 80 players. THEN....one more week until FINAL cuts take place on the 30th.

It's gotten to where I don't even try to keep up with who does well during the preseason, because there are always three to five guys that I am sure will make the team but end up getting cut.

I'm just ready for kickoff VS The Browns.

As of today (Monday..) the Panthers have 'retired' two more of their roster as the downward spiral of numbers continues. The Panthers have waived T Austen Pleasants and LB Khalon Tolson. This means there are three more players who will get 'the axe' sometime tomorrow. My gut reaction says that we will actually cut only two. The third roster 'reduction' will come as part of the plan for Matt Corral. I suspect he will be placed on the IR list. That action effectively removes him from the roster while staying available for a 'reappearance' later in the year. No official word about that yet, so we'll have to stay tuned to see how our latest QB fares.

Agreed about Corral.  He will end up sitting out this year anyway, so there is zero reason for him to be taking up a roster spot.

Well...the rest of the cuts (down to the roster limit) are now official.  QB Matt Corral is now on IR.  TE Jared Scott has been waived. CB Duke Dawson has been moved to IR alongside Corral.

The implications for Corral and Dawson are significant. With both of them going to IR this early in the session , they will remain there for the entire season.  It prevents them from coming back this year, but it 'protects' them a little from the 'cut monster'. Both of them could be back next season, barring some sort of medical/injury settlement.

The roster now stands at 80. The final cut to the active 53 will occur between now and the 30th.  I suspect we will see some of the lesser used players to slowly disappear over the next week, followed by THE cut (final..) on the 30th.

OKAY...... So here is the new roster in the form of a Depth Chart.  It now stands at 80 while getting ready for pre-season game #3 against the Bills. We started at 90.....added 3, dropped 13, so now we stand at 80. Additional cuts are coming of course, AND possibly, some additions as well. Most of the cuts will happen after the Buffalo game, although there very well could be some movement around the roster before the game.

I'll keep this one updated while it happens. Then of course the final 53 roster and changes to it as they occur.
