Trade! Donte Jackson to Pitt - BlackCatzFan - 03-12-2024

Per Adam Schefter for Dionte Johnson, WR, and a pick swap, will post a link when I find it

Their pick 270 for our 178.

?????

I don't think there is a pick #270 -- I don't think.??  Comp picks will drive the #s up but..???

Let's see... 32 teams X 7 rounds = 224 + 34 Compensatory picks = 258 Total --- Of course I could have that all balled up...

It was 240, I’m pretty sure, was half paying attention to live streams when I posted it. Doh!

240, confirmed. Swapped 6th rounders

Dionte: lead Pitt receivers since he’s been drafted, last good season was with Big Ben, but that’s no surprise. Kenny Pickett ain’t it.

Downside: several instances of him giving up on plays, and running backwards. Also accused of having “stone hands” at times.

Difference is, this is all under OC’s whom were frustrating to watch.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded wide receiver Diontae Johnson and pick No. 240 to the Carolina Panthers for cornerback Donte Jackson and pick No. 178, according to league sources.

When the Steelers selected Johnson in the third round of the 2019 draft, he had many of the same characteristics as former Pittsburgh receiver Antonio Brown. At 5-foot-10 and 183 pounds, he had a similar body type. Like Brown, he excelled at a MAC school and flew somewhat under the radar on draft day. But more than anything, Johnson was like his predecessor in that he had an elite ability to get in and out of cuts.

That pristine route-running ability has helped Johnson land at the top of many NextGen stats lists as one of the league’s most open receivers. He used that skillset to reach his first and only Pro Bowl in 2021, recording 107 catches for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns while quickly becoming quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s favorite target.

However, his production has fallen off in the years since. In an offense full of dysfunction, with former offensive coordinator Matt Canada running a vanilla offense and quarterback Kenny Pickett unable to play well enough to keep his job, Johnson went the entire 2022 season without scoring a touchdown. He rebounded to some degree in 2023, catching 51 passes in 13 games for 717 yards and five touchdowns. He also often drew the ire of fans for his frequent drops and the perplexing tendency to run backward after making catches.

To be honest, I have always like Donte Jackson, but he has been hurt a lot (some of it by being burned Tongue ) , but I am surprised they were able to trade him. I fully expected him to be cut from the team, period. I know nothing about Johnson.

Getting something for DJ was a big win IMO.  Seemed widely known he would likely get cut.

All I know about Johnston is what I have read since we got him.  The words 'pristine route runner' and he "gets separation" sound great as opposed to what we have been used too.

Don’t mind it, hope he fits in.
