Adam gets a raise - Ladypanther - 03-13-2025 https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-panthers-gave-adam-thielen-a-pay-raise Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen is getting a pay raise as he heads into the final year of his contract. The Panthers agreed to revise Thielen’s contract and give him a pay raise as a reward for his strong first two seasons in Carolina, according to Joe Person of TheAthletic.com. The revised contract will mean Thielen has a higher salary cap number in 2025 and will still have his contract void after the season. It’s unusual for teams to give players raises without also adding years to their contracts, but it’s possible that the Panthers were concerned the 34-year-old Thielen might retire, and wanted to incentivize him to stick around for another year. Thielen originally signed a three-year, $25 million contract with the Panthers in 2023. He has led the Panthers in receiving yards in each of his first two seasons in Carolina, and the Panthers see him as a key part of the ongoing development of quarterback Bryce Young. An extra investment in Thielen is an investment in the franchise’s future, even if Thielen doesn’t have many years left. Also a good way to build a culture where players want to play. Also Mike Jackson said he wanted to stay here because of how he was treated. Felt like he was wanted and the Panthers cared about what was important to him..... When asked for an example of that, Jackson said it was little things, like the way they treated him when he arrived. When you're acquired in a late-August trade at the end of training camp, you don't often walk in the door with any kind of status. Here, that meant a practice jersey with his old college number, 28. (He wore 30 with the Seahawks, but that wasn't available here since Chuba Hubbard was wearing it). "When they let me have the number 2, that was big," Jackson said. "Normally, stuff like that doesn't happen, especially when I ain't really got no ties to nobody here. So, I just look at little things like that.... in those early days, when he asked if he could switch to a single-digit, he was surprised at the matter-of-fact response from general manager Dan Morgan. "I asked Dan, and he was just like, yeah, we'll see," Jackson recalled. "And then, after all the cuts, it was in my locker, and that's that." That seemingly simple act resonated with Jackson and made him feel like family. https://www.panthers.com/news/mike-jackson-felt-at-home-here-now-he-gets-to-stay-free-agency-cornerback RE: Adam gets a raise - Hobbit99 - 03-13-2025 I am REALLY pleased that Thielen decided to stay at least one more year. The raise is small, so it almost a non-issue on the cap line, but it's important to foster attention and show the Panthers are serious, and to reward Adam for his efforts. Thielen is a man of honor. He's a great receiver and leaves it all out on the field. You can't ask for a better teammate or a better representative for the Panthers as well as a "coach" for the young'uns. RE: Adam gets a raise - PantherFan007 - 03-14-2025 Great job by the Panthers in keeping Thielen! He's a great player with a rare sort of leadership only found in the best of veterans (much like Ricky Proehl, Greg Olson, etc) RE: Adam gets a raise - Ladypanther - 03-14-2025 Well said Hobs and 007. |
