PANTHERS SIGN QB/TE HEINRICH HAARBERG (Nebraska) - Hobbit99 - 05-20-2026

According to the wire, the Panthers have signed Nebraska QB turned TE, Heinrich Haarberg. He played five years at Nebraska starting in 2021. The first couple of years were "lost" so to speak, but then starting in 2023 under then new HC Matt Rhule, Haarberg played a far more active role. Said to be a "Taysom Hill-esque" role, he played well and was productive as a QB AND a TE.

The Carolina Panthers have added an interesting offensive weapon.

As announced on Wednesday morning, the team has signed tight end Heinrich Haarberg. The 6-foot-4, 237-pound rookie transitioned from the quarterback position, where he played a "Taysom Hill-esque" role for the University of Nebraska in 2023 and 2024.

A Kearney, Neb. native, Haarberg was a member of the Cornhuskers from 2021 to 2025. He began his stay in Lincoln as a quarterback, and did not appear in a single game between his first two years.

Then in 2023—under former Panthers head coach Matt Rhule—Haarberg took snaps as both a quarterback and tight end. Through the 2024 campaign, he caught four passes for 28 yards, rushed for 579 yards and six touchdowns and passed for 1,068 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Good luck to the young man. It would be fun to see another twist of the playbook again.

Yep. Seattle had him first and already dropped him.

I had not heard that he signed with Seattle..??  Was it a "futures" deal of some sort.??  Hmm, something for me to look up.  Tongue

Sorry...what I read was only partially true....apparently......

Former Nebraska tight end Heinrich Haarberg is participating in the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie minicamp tryout, according to the team’s website.

They did not sign him and he then was signed by the Panthers.

Ahhh…. So that was it. Good to know. I wasn’t aware. I thought (guessed.??) that we just picked him up as another UDFA.
Thanks LP — You da bomb.!!  So I guess he’s pretty much a real long shot. Of course there’s no telling WHY the ‘hawks were looking— maybe they wanted another QB for camp.??  Wonder what WE’RE thinking.?? A short yardage QB sneak guy maybe.?? Dude is plenty big enough — 6’3” - 240 (or something like that).
Camp is going to be FUN this year.!!
