ESPN cuts - Ladypanther - 07-21-2026

Karl Ravech, one of ESPN’s most prominent on-air voices for more than three decades, and NFL insider Tom Pelissero were laid off as part of the network’s latest round of cuts Tuesday, according to sources briefed on the moves.

The layoffs are the first since ESPN finalized its acquisition of NFL Network in January, and most of the dismissals were expected to take place at NFL Network with a large contingent behind the scenes, according to the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter. ESPN purchased NFL Network as part of a series of agreements that gave the league a 10 percent stake in the network.

ESPN has spent the past six months sorting out how to make all the pieces from its bases in Bristol and New York coordinate with NFL Network’s Los Angeles operation.

In an internal memo Tuesday, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said the network has “made significant progress integrating the NFL assets that we acquired into ESPN.”

“While most of the job impacts are tied to the acquisition, we will also notify colleagues in other parts of the company today that their positions have been impacted,” Pitaro said.

On Monday, ESPN laid off NFL analyst Ryan Clark as part of the cuts. ESPN declined further comment.

ESPN also severed ties with former NFL MVP Cam Newton, longtime SportsCenter stalwart David Lloyd, injury expert Stephania Bell, former All-Pro linebacker and talk show host Bart Scott, as well as NFL Network analyst Charles Davis.

I'm not certain to whom you're referring, but if it's Cam, then I agree with the sentiment.  I have always sort of appreciated Tom Pelissero, although my general regard for "talking heads" has been less than sterling. Pelissero has seemed (to me..) to be less abrasive and more "in control" than most of the loud, click-baiting personalities. He will land on his feet (probably..).

Cam Newton is a perfect example of the latter type I mentioned. He's loud, obnoxious, brash, and completely self-absorbed. As a QB (for a few years), he was good for the Panthers -- until he decided that he was better than everyone around him. Then he became overbearing, and rightfully was left to slowly moulder along spewing BS and trying desperately to become pertinent in a serious business -- where he had no right to be. He will always be remembered as a Panthers QB, BUT his current trash-talking crap leaves me cold and completely NOT interested. When I see him I just "change the channel" and move on. He has nothing pertinent to add to any conversation.  ---   'How' or 'Why' he has a job anywhere in the media, is beyond me.  Huh Huh

Yes...I meant Cam and you summarized him well.  I will add to that...he has no respect for women. That is a very mild version of what I could say about that!

And I agree about Pelissero.  Surprised they let him go.

Oh god YES.
Cam and women should not be mentioned in the same breath. Those two things are mutually exclusive.
He occasionally mentions his nine kids (or maybe more.??— I don’t know….) but he NEVER acknowledges the women who are raising them.
