My goodness how dumb can u be either situation. Hope Lamar leaves. You know, I didn't know what the 'numbers' were, but it doesn't surprise me. Jackson is a proven commodity, at least on that particular team. Daniel Jones has been 'underwhelming' (IMHO) for the most part until just a few months ago. But remember what happened when Deshaun Watson went to the Browns last year. He was just a shadow of himself when he finally got on the field. The same thing could happen with Jackson, if/when he jumps to another team. The continuity is lost. He may end up in a spot with less effective (coaching, O-line, run support------Just name something..??). He was very effective at Baltimore where he had settled into a "fit". The fit may not be there with another team. The transition may be painful ..... just like it was for Deshaun Watson. Daniel Jones.??? Better than what we have, but still not too impressive (IMHO..). RE: Jones n Jackson - PantherFan007 - 03-08-2023 Lamar just got the non-exclusive Franchise Tag. Daniel Jones just signed a four year $160Million deal with the Giants this morning. You can "X" them off the market. EDIT: The "Non-Exclusive Tag" means Lamar can still talk to other teams, but they'll have to match $33M per year to get him. Too rich for our team. https://www.nfl.com/news/ravens-place-non-exclusive-franchise-tag-on-qb-lamar-jackson RE: Jones n Jackson - PantherFan007 - 03-08-2023 Here is the link for Jones and the Giants. https://www.nfl.com/news/giants-qb-daniel-jones-agree-to-four-year-160-million-contract RE: Jones n Jackson - Firstchance - 03-08-2023 Not exactly as how it appears. The Jones contract is 4 yr at 160 million… based strictly on what I have read…it also has some incentives which can make it higher but the GUARANTEE is only 82 million, which is essence makes it more like a 3 yr 82 million dollar deal if he doesn’t perform. Lamars contract situation is in direct relation to their collective bargaining. When he actually signs a contract and whether I agree or disagree it will far more GUARANTEED than what Jones just signed. RE: Jones n Jackson - PantherFan007 - 03-08-2023 Just going by the article. At any rate, he's signed to the Giants. "Big Blue and Jones agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth $160 million, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday, per sources informed of the agreement. The pact includes $35 million in additional incentives, $82 million over the first two years and a first-year cap number of $19 million, per Rapoport. The team later announced the four-year pact." Well.... This makes everything here moot. These contracts elicit oohs and aahs when discussed within all their flowery language. However, as First mentioned, the total contract time span means absolutely nothing. And the total value of the contract in dollars means almost nothing. The only criteria worth evaluating is the guaranteed money and the time frame over which it is paid. It is a fact that MOST large contracts never go all the way to completion. Teams let players go all the time and just absorb the balance of guaranteed money into "Dead Cap" space. They still owe it...and it still counts against their cap numbers for the year specified in the contract, but the player moves on somewhere else---or retires---or..??? The one place that it can get tricky is when a player on one of these contracts has a "No Trade" clause in their contract---- Or when a player on one of these contracts IS traded. Then the compensation and the "cap hit" can become part of the trade compensation --OR-- the contract COULD be completely renegotiated if the player agrees. So.... IMHO, Jones' contract totals mean very little, unless by some off-the-wall chance the Giants choose to retain him for the length of the contract. Could happen...maybe?? Jackson, as 007 pointed out, is under the "tag". He will play under the "tag", OR another team will outbid the tag and force the Ravens to raise the offer, OR--- Jackson COULD refuse to play under the tag and just forfeit his contract pay (he would still get any "guaranteed" money that was owed to him..). Players can be "tagged" twice, so this mess with Jackson COULD drag out for two years..... ALL of this ^^^ is just my understanding and IMHO..... Dang iphone RE: Jones n Jackson - Firstchance - 03-08-2023 I must admit. That move did make me think of Shawn Gilbert. The worse or maybe 2nd to Rhule, decision the Panthers have ever made.
