When asked about his (now verified) LOW S2 Cognitive Test Scores, CJ Stroud told the media, "I'm a Football player, not an S2 taker".  He didn't deny that his scores were low, which I found rather surprising, but now it seems that he did, in fact, score very poorly on the several times he took the test.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud is one of the most intriguing prospects heading into Thursday night's kickoff of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he responded on Wednesday to the narrative surrounding his evaluation that garnered headlines in recent days.

Stroud, who took questions from reporters after participating in the NFL Play Football clinic, was asked about the results of his S2 Cognition test, which NFL teams use to assess athletes' ability to process information. Stroud took the test multiple times and posted low scores, per NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.

"I'm a football player. ... I'm not an S2 taker," Stroud said on Wednesday after the youth football clinic concluded at a local high school. "But shout out to S2, man, they probably have a good system, what they do, no diss to them. But I know who I am, and I know what I can do on that field. And I'll do that at the next level."

Stroud said he has been off social media as he's gotten closer to the draft, so he hasn't been dialed in on the online conversation regarding the reports of his test scores. Stroud said his agent, David Mulugheta, called him to let Stroud know what was happening once some outlets ran with his scores.

"I don't know if the test scores are inaccurate or accurate," Stroud said Wednesday.

Stroud defended his ability to play football at the next level, as well.

"I know I have God-given talent -- not only to play the game, but to have IQ," Stroud said. "I think I'm very smart. I think if I'm not the smartest QB in this draft then I'm one of the smartest in this draft and in the NFL."

Stroud also had a message for those online who question him.

"For me, at the end of the day I don't got nothing to prove to nobody," he said. "I'm not going to sit here and explain how I process football. The people who are making the picks, know what I can do. So that's all that matters to me. There's a whole bunch of people who know how to coach better, know how to play quarterback better, know how to do everything on social media. ...

"I don't think you can play at Ohio State and not be smart. At the end of the day, if you don't trust and believe in me, all I can tell you is: Watch this."

Stroud has overcome challenges, most notably the incarceration of his father on a prison sentence of over 30 years when Stroud was 13 years old. He’s guarded about certain aspects of his life and that has been reflected in pre-draft meetings with teams. However, several GMs, scouts and coaches said Stroud grew on them the more time they spent with him. And Stroud is more highly regarded in terms of his passing ability and his football IQ than some other recent Ohio State QB prospects.

“The questions are going to be transitioning from that offense, because guys have had trouble (adjusting) from what they ask them to do (at Ohio State) to what we ask them to do in terms of setting protections and all that,” an NFC executive said. “He’s always had really good protection and he’s basically been driving a Cadillac -- he’s got [Jaxon Smith-Njigba], he’s got three first-round receivers, he’s got two first-round tackles. When he’s got space and time to throw, he carves people up and he’s ridiculous. When things have gotten tight -- when Michigan has gotten pressure on him, when he’s seen new stuff from Northwestern that they weren’t prepared for and the game gets tight -- he hasn’t played as free. And in fairness to [Stroud], he hasn’t been in that situation very often because they’ve been so good.”

The Buckeyes lost just four of Stroud’s 25 starts, though two of those defeats came against rival Michigan. Stroud took the S2 Cognition test multiple times and posted low scores, but coaches who have watched the tape and put Stroud on the board were impressed with his processing ability. He has displayed toughness, starting all 12 games in 2021 despite separating the AC joint in his right (throwing) shoulder in the season opener. And as pure passers go, Stroud is one of the best in this class.

SO... OKAY, Can we slow down a little here.??  I have some questions.....

You said... "(now verified) LOW S2 Cognitive Test Scores"
AND
"he did, in fact, score very poorly..."

Please elucidate.

  1. Where is the "verification"? I would like to read anything that "verifies" these scores.
  2. Other than Tom Pellisero, who else are we quoting?
  3. How does Pellisero know these score numbers?
  4. The article by Pellisero that you quoted is OLD news. That article is from the 21st, and is "in fact" the same BS we've been talking about here for the past couple of days. Nothing new in THAT article.
  5. The second article by Eric Edholm is from yesterday. So, it is current and useful. HOWEVER, other than the quotes from Stroud, what else is there that sheds light on this?
  6. Yesterday's article (Edholm's) quotes the previous article by Pellisero.!! REALLY.???  So Edholm is using anything he can to further confuse the issue.
  7. Stroud himself said "I don't know if the test scores are inaccurate or accurate." So Stroud did NOT verify low scores.
  8. Stroud DID say "I'm a football player, not an S2 taker"  although I don't see how that "means anything". I agree, he's a "football player."

NOW.... I do NOT know anything about these disclosures of scores. I do NOT know where Pellisero got his information last week. AND I'm NOT saying that the leaked information is correct or INcorrect.  BUT I DO want to see verification.  So, please post the verifying information if you would please.

IF ANYONE has any verification about these leaked scores, PLEASE POST IT.

Tom P. did not quote scores above, just that C.J. scored low.  CJ was asked about it and didn't deny it.  As far as I'm concerned, if I ask someone about something and they don't deny it, it's an admission.  But it's a moot point at this point.  It's Houston's problem, not ours.

And I still wouldn't have been upset if we had drafted him at #1.  He's a great and highly talented kid.
