New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr announced his retirement Saturday, the team shared in a news release. The 34-year-old is dealing with a labral tear in his right shoulder and has significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff, the Saints said.

“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with (my wife) Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League,” Carr said in the statement. “For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.”

Hate it for Carr but could not have happened to a more deserving franchise.  Big Grin

I think we saw the writing on the wall about a month ago. I sort of expected this announcement before now.  Carr is not old, but the NFL takes a toll on athletes unlike any other sport.

I will never be happy about a player being injured. Carr's circumstances are indeed unfortunate.  However, if the Saints struggle, oh well.....  WE certainly have had our share of impediments. Let them share in the bounty.!!
