I figured this is what was going to happen.  Yep, it's business, but I feel bad for PJ Walker.  The kid has done everything that has been asked of him.

CHARLOTTE — While Panthers head coach Matt Rhule has tried to keep things as level as possible, he acknowledged Monday the likelihood that quarterback Cam Newton will have a bigger role this week.

Rhule said that Newton would take most of the reps in practice, and if he's comfortable with enough of the playbook and plans, he'd have a chance to play more or start against the Washington Football Team.

P.J. Walker started Sunday since Newton only had one full practice to prepare, and Rhule said there was a package of 10 to 15 plays Newton was comfortable with going into the Cardinals game. He was obviously pretty comfortable with those, since he scored touchdowns on the first two snaps he was on the field.

"We'll give Cam most of the reps and try to get him as brought up to speed as possible," Rhule said. "I thought he did a great job last week having 10 plays he was kind of ready for, 10 to 15.

"So we'll start getting him ready, and if he's ready to start, great. And if he's not quite ready to do everything, obviously P.J. is available. So that's kind of the plan right now."

After putting in a fast package of plays, they'll obviously need to expand that in practice this week, work that began on Monday.

"So we'll do the best we can, and see where we are later in the week," Rhule said. "But he will get most of the reps."

I feel for PJ. Could we alternate qbs again? Cams still green, Walkers been here all year…. Hope both are considered. Only fair. Cam will get it sooner or later, don’t want to disrespect pj though. If he’s got the grasp of it, keep trotting him out with a Newton package. Worked last week.

Don’t wanna “jump the shark” with Newton. Pj did well, albeit 14 out of 22 completions to running backs. So 8 to te/wr, all game. Eww…

Strange situation..... PJ looked OK last week. He's been running the offense all year so he SHOULD know what to do. Cam is WAY behind, but he brings the ENERGY for the team. Have to wait and see I guess.....

Yeah, but those passing numbers are misleading.

If I remember correctly, a BUNCH of those RB passes were to McCaffrey. AND...McCaffrey was split out as a WR on multiple occasions. When you have someone like McCaffrey you absolutely MUST use him. I have absolutely no issues with throwing to McCaffrey. He has great hands and gets vertical quickly. Once he gets the ball in his hands, he is the ultimate threat.

Coach Rhule all but said today that Cam will start on Sunday. He wouldn't come out and "state it", but he did say, "It's trending in that direction". He went on and on about how impressed he has been by Cam in the short time he has been here, how much of a freak of nature he is, how smart he is, and his work ethic.

Coach Rhule also alluded to Cam's first two touches of the football both resulting in touchdowns. He said HE would have never believed it, it was like something "out of a movie". So yeah, he's having a Camfest right now.
