More Changes: Panthers Fire Two Offensive Assistants (msn.com)

In addition to Frank Reich being let go, two Panthers assistants are also being relieved of their duties. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, quarterbacks coach Josh McCown and assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley have been fired.

The Panthers rank 29th in rushing yards per game, averaging just 92.6 yards. Carolina spent big money on free agent running back Miles Sanders who has underperformed and has lost his role as the starter to Chuba Hubbard. In ten games this season, Sanders has totaled 302 yards and one touchdown on 97 carries. This is off the heels of his best season in the NFL where he rushed for over 1,200 yards and recorded 11 touchdowns.

Quarterback Bryce Young has had his fair share of difficulties during his rookie season, completing just 61% of his pass attempts and has nine touchdowns to eight interceptions on the year. Carolina has had trouble hitting on explosive plays in general, but certainly in the passing game. McCown was in his first year as an NFL coach.

From Panthers.com:

Panthers move on from Duce Staley, Josh McCown

CHARLOTTE — Panthers interim head coach Chris Tabor has begun adjusting his coaching staff.

Assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley, and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown will not continue with the team.

Staley came here with a strong tie to former head coach Frank Reich, as they worked together in Philadelphia. The Panthers are 29th in the league in rushing this season, a drastic departure from last season's success in that area.

McCown was in his first year as an assistant coach after a long playing career, including a stint with the Panthers.
