Well... The word on the street is Derrick Brown has become the first of the Panthers draft picks to sign his rookie contract.  Nothing unusual THERE...

Word has it the rookie contract is worth 23.6 Million over four years (and of course a fifth year option is out there to be negotiated if all goes swimmingly)...Where it all becomes a BIT unusual is in the details... According to Adam Schefter, Brown's contract is FULLY GUARANTEED..!!! Now THAT'S unusual.!!!

So, Charles Johnson's jersey# AND a BIG rookie contract.!!
Here's the story as noted on CSR:

Good for him for setting the example and getting things moving. If I am not mistaken, that is about the rookie maximum under the new CBA. It seems like that is about what Cam got.

Hmmm..... I don't know (can't remember..) about the numbers... You're probably right.
The real eye-opener is the "Guaranteed" contract. Very unusual to have a "fully guaranteed" contract...especially for a rookie.  If this guy were to flop, there is no way out from under...... Can you say "DEAD MONEY"..???

I think "Guaranteed Money" still has stipulations, for example, you have to be available to play in all 16 games during the regular season.  I might be wrong, but I believe there are still stipulations

I'm sure you're right... There are some stipulations. Passing a physical/meeting physical requirements must be one of them.  Still, a lot of players get cut and traded and waived..... etc., etc.  No recourse on this contract. No way out.....
