Week 1 Wednesday Injury Report: Giovanni Ricci limited (panthers.com)

CHARLOTTE — The first injury report of the year is a short one, which is what you hope for this time of year.

Tight end/fullback Giovanni Ricci (hip) was listed as limited in Wednesday's practice, the only player who wasn't a full participant.

Ricci picked up the injury in the preseason and has been working his way back in recent days. He wasn't wearing a red or green jersey in practice Wednesday. He's a key part of their special teams, so having him available Sunday against the Browns would be important.

Kicker Eddy Piñeiro (left hip) was listed as a full participant in practice.

He got here last week, after the season-ending groin injury suffered by Zane Gonzalez.

RB Christian McCaffrey added to the Injury Report after cutting his shin from a cleat.

The team says he should be ready to go by gametime Sunday.

Rookie linebacker Brandon Smith was added to the report with a thigh injury and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns. He's the only one who was limited in practice Friday. CMC, Ricci, and Eddy Piñeiro practiced fully.

Hope he comes out of this STRONG.....  I think Brandon Smith is our next great MLB... Just needs a little time and reps. He's gonna be a really good one.  You heard it here first.!!

I was thinking the same thing about Brandon the other day.  I watched a lot of highlights from his college days, and then seeing him on the field during the preseason, he really impressed the hell out of me.
