PANTHERS ADD BASKETBALL CENTER TO TE ROOM

Just announced:  The Panthers have signed another B I G guy to the TE room. Former basketball center, Colin Granger from Ohio University - Western Carolina - Coastal Carolina is now in line for his first experience playing  football.
Granger is 6’8”, 247…. So, one of the bigger guys in the league. While he SHOULD be plenty fit, there are still plenty of questions about his football acumen. AND…perhaps more to the point, what does this say about the Panthers intentions going forward.??

Panthers sign tight end Colin Granger

CHARLOTTE — "The Carolina Panthers signed Colin Granger on Monday. The former Division I basketball player is making the transition to football, and will be signed as a tight end.

Granger played college basketball for five years as a center. He started his career at Ohio University, playing two years for the Bobcats, before making his way to the Carolinas. After two years at Western Carolina, he finished his career at Coastal Carolina.

This is Granger's first foray into football. He'll tower over his teammates, at 6-8, 245 pounds. Over his five-year career, Granger averaged 52.3 percent in field goals and had 322 rebounds in his career, including 137 in his final season at Coastal Carolina.

The Panthers tight end unit now sits at six total. Granger will join Tommy Tremble, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Jordan Matthews, James Mitchell, and Dominique Dafney."

Here's some background from his basketball career as well as his football "Academy" stuff.

Dang, that's one big boy right there. The youtube video shows him at 6'9. Either way, 6'9, 6'8, not much difference there.
