This thread is just for players you don't think the Panthers will select, but it would be a surprise if they did.

SURPRISE PLAYER:  I think it would (pleasantly) surprise me to see the Panthers select Colston Loveland, Tight End, Michigan in the first round.

SURPRISE POSITION: Linebacker (not Edge)

Anyone else?

Any offensive player would be a surprise.  As would trading up.

I’ll go a little off-script here and talk about potential surprises that I think COULD happen although most talking heads don’t even talk about them.

Surprise… Panthers draft a QB (maybe round 5..?) — Riley Leonard ND - maybe?
Surprise… Panthers draft TWO Safeties — one ‘early’, one later. 2nd round & 5th round
Jonathon Brooks’ knee is crap… Stick a fork in him — he’s done.
Surprise… Panthers draft a RB 3rd RD — Skattebo

The rest of the picks are not ‘surprises’.
Two Defense front-7 guys one edge & one Tackle (maybe 3..!!)
One CB (maybe 2)
One WR
One OT
Undoubtedly several UDFAs as well

Panthers trade up and back (4 trades..).)

I think the Panthers trade back in the 1st and pick up an earlier 2nd then maybe trade up in the 2nd for Emmanwori.

I think the Panthers draft Walter Nolan D-line

The late round QB would not surprise me.  Need some competition in that room to plan for the post Dalton era. Leonard could also be the QB sneak guy.

I do see them drafting a RB...but 3rd a little high, IMO. The only way I see them drafting offense that high is if a TE or WR falls that they just cannot pass up.

I caught a video yesterday afternoon by one of the talking heads and he was telling the other ones, "Did you see Dan Morgan's Press Conference?  He put out 'for sale signs" all over the Panthers #8 pick".

Fblaugh  It was funny how he said it, but there was truth in it.   He was discussing teams who had trade bait and were likely to be in motion this evening.

If they want to keep looking for a Running Back, Rocket Sanders (South Carolina) is projected to be a 4th to 7th Rounder, but that really shocks me, I thought he would at least be a mid 2nd or high 3rd round pick.

That kid is a bruiser, hard to bring down, and much like Jonathan Stewart, he can push the pile into the end zone.  Oh, and yes, he can catch as well.

If he (by some strange circumstance) were to go undrafted, I'd put money on it that the Panthers sign him.

And I don't understand why nobody is talking about this kid.

Yep, you’re probably right about the RB. I think it depends on who they like. IF they want Skattebo, I believe he comes off the board in the 3rd (MAAYBEE the 4th..??). Just like I believe that Emmanwori comes off late in the 1st or early to mid 2nd. Golden would be my WR choice but he will probably come off in the 1st or early 2nd. I firmly believe we stand pat on TEs, unless we take one LATE.

Part of my process on WR, TE, and RB is based on what we did last year. I just can’t see us taking a WR or TE early in the draft two years in a row. RB is different because Brooks is  VERY injured … and I don’t think his prognosis or “upside” is even worth talking about.

My early round picks would probably be Edge, D-line, Safety, RB, maybe CB or OT. From 5th onward anything is possible including “depth” pieces at all positions.

For me … the REAL surprises would be WR, TE, QB  before 4th round.

But truthfully, I really have no idea. I’m sure Dan has it figured out.!!!!

Tongue  you're just saying that cause its true lol

But, yeah.  I'm a huge Gamecocks fan and I watch every game with eyes on who has talent.  I don't watch many other teams unless they are playing South Carolina, so it's really all I know.  But when I mention some names, I try being fair and not just be a homer, ya know? But, who knows?  I might just be a homer lol
