2025 NFL Draft guide
By Dane Brugler

Tetairoa McMillan
Arizona
HT6′4″
WT213

A three-year starter at Arizona, McMillan flexed across the formation (78.1 percent of snaps wide, 21.6 percent slot) in the Wildcats’ spread scheme (Dino Babers and Matt Adkins shared play-calling duties in 2024). While catching passes from his longtime best friend, Noah Fifita, the Hawaiian native was one of the most productive players in college football over the past two seasons — he led the FBS in combined receiving yards (2,721), first downs (112) and catches of 20 yards or more (42).

Showing off his volleyball and basketball background, McMillan shines at the catch point and uses his Gumby-like body-adjustment skills to frame the football with his hands, regardless of the placement or action required. With heavy helpings of slants, hitches and go routes on tape, he is at his best when he can stretch out his stride. He has the feet of a smaller athlete but will need time to expand his route tree and pacing to avoid giving away subtle hints that savvy NFL corners will notice. Overall, McMillan is only average in the speed and separation categories, but he is a long and limber athlete with exceptional tracking and ball-winning instincts. He fits the Tee Higgins mold as a unique playmaker, because of his size and catch-point skills.

Horrible pick in that spot, simply horrible.

Of the eight picks it is the lowest rated in CBS Sports…with a C grade.

Colston Loveland, Tight End from MIchigan would have been a MUCH better pick at #8 if they wanted a pass catcher, and he was available.

I did not mean she did not like it....wondering if she is even there.

Using their first-round pick, the Panthers landed Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan on Day 1. The 22-year-old was the second prospect at his position to be selected on Thursday. Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter was selected second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Waimanalo, Hawaii, native is coming off a three-year tenure with the Wildcats. During that stint, McMillan collected 213 receptions for 3,423 yards and 26 touchdowns in 37 games.

McMillan enters a position room that features last year’s first-round pick Xavier Legette, Adam Thielen, Jalen Coker and David Moore. He will likely be positioned to start opposite Thielen and Legette. Regardless of how it shakes out in training camp, McMillan, at minimum, should be part of the plan to solve lack of big plays in the passing game.

McMillan, who is known for his jump-ball ability, is 6-foot-4 and 219 pounds with arms longer than 31 inches. He has huge 10-inch hands, and he uses them to snag the ball out of the air and bully smaller defensive backs. While his speed has been knocked by evaluators, McMillan is a smooth route runner, who get open with his short-area quickness.
