Hate to be the downer on this but I am over this racoon stuff.  It was amusing at first,,,,,when it was mostly "in the family."  That, plus his accent just reinforces old stereotypes of poor southerners or Appalachian hillbillies.

That being said....The Derby must have been a real thrill for him.

Now let's focus on CATCHING THE DAM BALL!

AGREED... I've stayed away from this. I have some concerns about Legette and none of them have to do with raccoons.

Example:  T-Mac has bonafides supposedly as a potential "#1" WR.  (I'll admit I have no idea exactly what that is ... or why??). Yet Legette has more vertical speed (fact). Now it appears that Legette has become a media darling and a "voice" and a "face" of the NFL. -- REALLY??  Way to ruin a player who has some potential.  What happens when Legette is so "famous" his play doesn't matter as much as his "rising star".?? Is he doomed to be an egoist in his youth, expecting fame and money to be thrown his way because folks think he talks funny and, you know, the league supports him.??

I think this current line of thinking and action is a real disservice to Legette ,  AND THE PANTHERS.! --- All of this promotion and ballyhoo could very easily RUIN a young, impressionable player.

THAT is the view from here.!!   Angry PissedOff

My daddy was born and raised, lived and died, just a few miles from Xavier Legette.  My daddy was poor, and he hunted and ate Raccoon. I was born 22 miles from Mullins, SC (which is towards the coast, not in Appalachia). I'm not ashamed to have grown up poor, nor was my father.  This article never struck me as a stereotype of anything or anyone.  I grew up around folks just like Xavier and nothing he says or does causes my knee to jerk.

Just saying. Dodgy

No disrespect meant to anyone.  I did not come from money either.  My father would not tell the story himself (his sister told me)..his father was not often present in their lives.  My grandmother raised 8 children and the family had to frequently move trying to keep ahead of creditors or an eviction notice. The Navy probably saved him.   My mother was raised in a simple country family who had to raise their own chickens. We have never had any hunters in the family.

My comments were more about the people outside of our area and how they view us even today and fighting those stereotypes.  Also I hope XL (who I like) is working very hard on football as he his brand and his new found fame.
