The latest scuttlebutt (word on the street) has The Panthers signing a former 3rd round QB to the Practice Squad. Quoting Charlotte Observer's Mike Kaye, the Panthers are expected to sign QB Hendon Hooker. The Panthers have "apparently" picked him up either off the waiver wire, OR after passing through the waiver process. Hooker was drafted in the 3rd round in 2023 by the Detroit Lions. He spent most of that year rehabbing an ACL injury and played just a little in 2024. The Lions waived him this year at cut-down.
Hooker had a great final year at Tennessee in 2022, throwing for over 3100 yds, 27 TDs and only 2 Ints. He finished #5 in balloting for the Heisman ahead of our own Bryce Young.

"A Reasoned Response From A Reasonable Mind"
He’s here, as of tomorrow or so.
This is not a signing that excites me. I'm suspecting they are thinking, "Bring him in, take a look, let him go". Hooker can be mobile, which is probably his best asset, but I was never really impressed by him when he was at Tennessee.
Hooker has been signed to the Panthers' Practice Squad, along with WR Ainias Smith

You know, I know very little about Hendon Hooker. I didn't follow him at all at Tennessee. But after looking up his stat line there, he is a pretty impressive QB (stat-wise). 3100+ yards - 27 TDs - 2 INTs --- That's pretty impressive. His one concerning area is the ACL repair.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him get snapped up by a needy team at some point.
