Welp, Kicker Dominik Eberle wasn't in Charlotte long enough to unpack his bag before being waived after the Panthers on Tuesday traded a conditional 7th round pick to the New York Giants for Kicker Ryan Santoso, who was edged out of starting job in NY by former Panthers Kicker, Graham Gano. Go figure.
Panthers trade for kicker Ryan Santoso
CHARLOTTE — The Panthers continue to look at the kicking competition, by adding another name to the mix Thursday.
The Panthers have traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the New York Giants for kicker Ryan Santoso. The seventh-round pick they owned originally belonged to the Dolphins, and will be the higher of the Titans or Patriots seventh-rounders next year (as long as Santoso plays in two games here).
The Panthers traded their own seventh-rounder and linebacker Denzel Perryman to the Raiders Wednesday in exchange for Las Vegas' sixth-rounder next year.
The 26-year-old Santoso has stood out in Giants camp this summer, but wasn't going to pass Graham Gano for the starting job.
He has spent time with the Lions and Titans before his time with the Giants, spending last year on their practice squad. He originally came to the league as an undrafted rookie from Minnesota (where he also punted).
The Panthers brought in Dominik Eberle this week to compete with incumbent Joey Slye, who is going through what coaches here have described as a "slump."
