Have not seen who was dropped off the 53, guess that will come soon.

It was Zane Gonzales according to the article:

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers found their new kicker Wednesday.

The team has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with kicker Eddy Piñeiro, pending a physical. He's en route to Charlotte now, so the deal won't be finalized until later today.

The 26-year old Piñeiro was with the Jets late last season and was cut at the end of training camp this year, but he has experience working with Panthers special teams coach Chris Tabor from their time together with the Bears.

He has an 86.1 career field goal percentage and hit all eight of his field goals with the Jets last year.

The Panthers put kicker Zane Gonzalez on injured reserve Tuesday after he suffered a groin injury while warming up on the sidelines in the preseason finale.

FC, I think Darnold went to IR as the corresponding move.

Thanks. Have not seen that and was wondering why not.

Hey Guys...
Not sure about that.  Darnold is still on the roster, and likely will be until the "magic date" rolls around that allows him to go on IR as "designated to return".. Anyone placed on IR early (like Zane..) is automatically "season ended". Once Pineiro hits the roster we will see a corresponding move. It's probably in place right now, just not acted on yet.... My guess would be Darnold will go to IR later today.

FYI.... Pineiro has NOT signed at this time. He has merely "agreed to terms". He is subject to a physical which may happen today (or tomorrow..).. That has to happen before he can "sign".  THEN the roster decision has to be made........ I THINK the date/time is 4:00 PM ET today the 31st.

Makes even more sense.
Not sure time frame matters though. It’s my understanding that teams can return eight slots from the IR during the course of the year. Now Darnold may very well go but… if his injury is expected to be 3-4 weeks, least assume it is three… we are still over a week away so why use one of your slots, so to speak, for a guy who might only be there 2 weeks? I would think they are holding old to see how much progress he is making over the next few days and simply saving that slot, which can be valuable. Just a thought.

Good thinking… Very possible you could be right. So you’re saying Darnold may not go to IR at all. Hmm… if THAT were to happen, then we would have to cut or waive someone else to make room for Pineiro.

Darnold will most likely go to IR tomorrow. Had to wait until 12:00 Noon today before he was eligible to return this year.  Or, we may NOT send him to IR at all....depending on how long they figure he will miss.  I DO suspect he will go though. As far as "who would leave if Darnold didn't go to IR.??" --- "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men". .Nope, nevermind.... That was "The Shadow" "The Shadow Knows.." Here..?? Your guess is a good one, Josh.!!

Just noticed your comment about Eason.  I just added some links to the story in a new thread.
