Effective Wednesday, the Panthers have started reducing the roster and making moves for FA and the Draft. The first players to get 'pink slips' this year are......
1) CB Rashaan Melvin
2) CB Justin Layne
3) LB Jordan Mack
This is only the beginning of the "musical chairs" carousel that will take place over the next weeks (and months..). Most of these early cuts are for 'space' for FA acquisitions and Draft players. The 'shuffling' will continue up through the pre-season and beyond as players don't perform and others get released by other teams.
PANTHERS WIRE: Panthers start 'releasing' to make space
Adding to this list...
1) CB Rashaan Melvin
2) CB Justin Layne
3) LB Jordan Mack
NEW ADDITION
4) LB Damien Wilson
I wish Shaq the best. I personally don’t see him as a good fit for the 3-4 scheme. Definitely not an edge LB that the 3-4 needs and too slight to be in the middle. His size makes him more of a strong safety, which he played quite a bit in college but they years of wear and tear in this league has seemed to diminished the speed he may need for this position. Again, I like shag and will wish him well but I don’t think we see him again in a panthers uniform unless it’s on a one day deal in the future when he retires.

De nada.....
It's an interesting situation. Especially since Shaq has sort of volunteered to "help" the team with the cap situation.
Shaq is staying…
The Panthers are moving to a new defensive system this year, but they're bringing an important piece of last year's back with them.
The Panthers agreed to terms on a reworked contract with veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson Saturday.
That move will keep him here for the transition to the 3-4 that new coordinator Ejiro Evero is bringing, and Evero specifically mentioned Thompson as a player he'd want to coach during his introductory press conference in February.

The other thread is perfect. This thread is really about “releases”. Shaq came up because there was a question whether or not he would be back because of the cap hit. So now we know he won’t be an “item” in this thread.!
WELL.... It's NOT official yet because of FA rules, but Sam Darnold has reportedly agreed to sign with the 49ers. So we'll put him here with the "lost" players for now.
1) CB Rashaan Melvin
2) CB Justin Layne
3) LB Jordan Mack
4) LB Damien Wilson
NEW ADDITION
5) QB Sam Darnold
