Once again, Ben Johnson has apparently "opted out" from HC consideration league wide. Now, for the second year in a row, Johnson has elected to stay put with the Lions as their OC rather than chase a HC job somewhere. Last year he said he "didn't feel ready". So far this year there is no comment from Johnson. One thing is for certain, This will definitely raise the level of interest NEXT year.

IT GETS WORSE...

With apologies to Paul Harvey...

And now -- The Rest Of The Story...

It was reported earlier that Ben Johnson had decided to remain with the Lions again this year.  Hard to tell what (exactly) this will do for his future opportunities, BUT ... the rest of the story definitely adds interest...

It's now being reported that Johnson had scheduled an interview with the Commanders at his location. The Commanders personnel folks packed up and joined a flight to Detroit (assumedly) to meet with him. While enroute, the Commanders folks received a message from Johnson that he was no longer interested. So now, a group of Commanders people were winging their way to Johnson with no way to easily abort the process. Wasting time, energy, fuel and whatever else when it could have (and SHOULD have) been easily avoided.  Johnson apparently doesn't care. He has had no comment on the situation as he sits back and watches.....

The gist of the online comments indicate a miffed Commanders group and questions about how other Front Offices look upon his methods and attitude.

THIS... along with Adam Schefter's comments about his salary demands "spooking" teams makes me wonder..... Maybe we are well done with this guy..??

It unfortunate but teams next year probably won’t remember or simply not care.

I can't blame him for being "so close" and wanting to stick around for a Super Bowl (telling Washington that THEY are NOT a Super Bowl contender, by the way), but for him to have made them come to his location to interview him and then at least not having the professional courtesy to at least sit thru the interview, that's bad business.

Slowik also staying put:

The Houston Texans won’t need to find a new offensive coordinator this offseason, as Bobby Slowik will return to Houston under a new contract that will feature a significant raise, according to a league source.

He went through his 2nd interviews and wasn't getting an offer it seems.

Ben Johnson reminds me of this:

LOL... And just like Lucy, he's laughing about all of this 'great fun'. "I have an idea.... Let's see if we can make 'em run around in circles for awhile..!!"

Yep.  Sounds like Johnson..

There is now some additional word from Garafolo about the Ben Johnson process...

It seems that Johnson was not interviewing well. Whether it was an attitude problem or just lack of interest, he apparently was not presenting himself as the HC candidate who teams were in search of.  Looking more and more as if the Panthers dodged a bullet with the Johnson candidacy.
Maybe we got it right...  Praying

That's interesting.  Meanwhile, Washington went from looking like they were going to get the pick of the litter but instead had to settle for a retread that no one else wanted. They will put a good spin on it but I imagine their fans are disappointed and Peters might be saying..."what did I do?"
