The first FA action of the year for the Panthers has come and gone. If you count the Brian Burns boondoggle, and there is no reason not to do so, then free agency has started for the Panthers.
First on the list is Brian Burns, (Retained). Burns was hit with the NON-exclusive Franchise Tag. There is no way to know how this move will play out. He might stay, he might accept an offer under the tag, or he could be traded at some point before the deadline. First he has to acknowledge/sign the tag. If he doesn't, the Panthers COULD rescind the tag.
Second on the list is (apparently) JJ Jansen. (Retained). Jansen has apparently agreed to terms for another one-year contract. This will make sixteen years for Jansen with the Panthers. Jansen is the longest tenured Panther in team history. He also holds the team record of 243 games started since he joined the Panthers in 2009.
JJ Jansen retention is confirmed by Panthers on March 11, 2024.
