This is an interesting question......(Play-calling in the NFL..).
I did a little research, although not too much "depth". What I found was that as many as 20+ NFL Head Coaches call plays. Some of them call "Defensive" plays, some of them call "Offensive" plays. Of the 20+ (approx..) Head coaches involved, some of them are "part-time" play callers and some of them call 100% of the plays. My last count showed 8-10 Head Coaches were "full-time" Offensive play-callers. (The actual number depends on who you choose to believe..).
So..... Frank Reich is (was..??) certainly not the 'Lone Ranger' in the NFL. As a matter of fact, the HCs who DO call the Offensive plays are a bunch of extremely successful Head Coaches (generally speaking..).
I'm not sure what any of this means, but there you are.......
