I think we "activated" him because we had to. There is only a 21 day window from when he is designated to return, and his window was closing on Wednesday. If we had NOT activated him, he would have gone on to the "season-ending" IR. Would have been lost for the whole season.
The "key" to the whole thing is when the Panthers "designated" him to return. That starts the clock. I was of the opinion that we should have waited another week before designating him to return. Then we could have taken advantage of the BYE week as an addition to his practice time without incurring any disruption to the roster short-term. In other words, we could have had 28 days (counting the BYE week) to practice him before the mandatory activation day.
Anyway, it'll be good to see him on the field whenever it occurs. I suspect we won't see much of him against the Giants, if at all. But we're OK. Chuba can carry the load and is playing HQ football.
