President Carter's passing has ignited a storm of politics. Multiples of peoples who seek to take advantage of the situation to further their own goals or ideology. Of all of our "modern-day" presidents, President Carter was the least political of the bunch. He and Rosalynn lived a good and decent life before, during, and after his Presidential term.
He lived on for just over one year after the passing of his wife, Rosalynn. She died last November. Sunday, November 19, 2023. None of us knew how much time the President had remaining in this earthly realm, but I think we all realized it was measured in a relatively short period. Rosalynn Carter passed at the age of 96. President Carter lived to be 100.
Last year, when Rosalynn passed, I wrote a very brief goodbye memorial to her. It spoke a lot to President Carter and their life together. Although I have been asked to do so on occasion, I don't write eulogies. There are several reasons, but mostly it's because I don't feel capable or deserving. President Carter deserves a fitting memorial, but someone else will have to write it.
I am going to quote the message I wrote for Rosalynn Carter. It encompasses my thoughts on the two of them.
As a general aside, There is a lot more that could be said about President Carter. However there is not a lot more that NEEDS to be said. It would be impossible to argue against Carter's dignity, honor, honesty and humanitarian focus.
So, I'll close this missive by saying that we owe President Carter a debt of gratitude for shining a beacon of light on what needs to be done and for showing us the right way to do it.
Before he passed, President Carter was our oldest living president. He was also the ONLY president to live to the age of 100.
President Carter was also one of four presidents who have been honored as a Nobel Laureate. President Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. The other three are: President Theodore Roosevelt - 1906; President Woodrow Wilson - 1920; and President Barack Obama - 2009.
Rest In Peace President Carter. It's time to join Rosalynn. Our nation will always respect your gentle, honest Presidency.

Quote:The Carter presidency took place at a sort of strange time in American history. He was loved by some folks and reviled by some. But the truth is, his presidency was fine. It was OK. He was well liked, especially in the south, but less so in "middle America". It may be difficult to understand, but his presidency languished because it was a calm time (relatively speaking). There was little in the way of strife and there was little to do on the international scene. He suffered from lower ratings largely because he was relatively invisible.
After he left office (only one term..), his visibility increased and he was rated a lot higher due to his and Rosalynn's efforts on the social scene. Rosalynn stood behind President Carter without flinching. She supported him unequivocally. They were 'good people'. It's a sad time when a nation loses an historical figure. Rosalynn was such a person. Quiet, unassuming, but strong of spirit. Women of today have a lot to be thankful for. And part of that thankfulness is a debt due to Rosalynn Carter.
Rest In Peace, Rosalynn. Your family loves you and misses you. America will mourn with them.
