Man, this time of the year sucks for a LOT of folks. I feel bad for the guys getting cut, mainly because many of them are good football players, they are simply a casualty of logistics. Others kept are sometimes "favorites" of coaches, etc. (and don't try to make me believe it doesn't happen), so the less popular players get the axe. How many times over the years have we seen guys get cut only to go to other teams and have stellar careers (and vice versa). But then again, how many times have we seen guys hyped up here (Josh Norman, anyone?) then go to other teams and fade out to obscurity?

Gosh yes. The guys getting "cut". Most of them came to camp knowing they had little or no chance to make the roster. They were simply "camp fodder". A warm body put in place to feed the animals. BUT...some of them.... There are a few who had genuine hope. A few who just needed one thing to go their way What they received instead was "Sorry, Charlie.... No room at the inn this year."

Most of them will fade into obscurity. A few will hang on, catch a break with a team somewhere. Those lucky few will hang around as PS guys or be "picked up" at a later time when injury forces a team to go 'searching'. Some of those 'few' will make it.... but sadly, not many.

It's a harsh reality folks. A 90 man roster gets cut down to 53. That math is simple enough. LOTS of attrition in this game every year. Sad, really. And yes, 007, there is definitely a bunch of nepotism.. "Here" is no different than "There." Who you know will sometimes take precedence over "what" you know. A "flawed" system begets flawed, under-prepared, players. But not for long..

Agreed, Hobbit. And it isn't just the coaches. We hear it all the time, "QB So-and-Co went to his favorite receiver" or "WR So-and-So has really developed a chemistry with QB So-and-So". When a quarterback has a "favorite receiver" (ie; Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith), others often won't get a chance (Kerry Colbert) to get noticed or to make much of an impact, and yep, it's just the nature of the game, but at the same time I still feel bad for the guys who get cut.

There is a lot of truth to the old saying, "It's hard to catch a football if nobody is throwing at you".

LOL.... Yeah.  And for some of those guys it's "hard to catch a football..." even if someone IS throwing to you...  Hubbard, you listening.??

Two more cut today (Monday, August 29th, 2022).

Panthers release two players Monday

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers began the process of getting to the 80-man roster limit Monday, releasing two players on Monday before practice.

The team waived offensive tackle Austen Pleasants and linebacker Khalan Tolson.

The Panthers have to be down to an 80-man roster by Tuesday afternoon before reducing to the 53-man regular season limit by Aug. 30.

That means they have three more roster moves to make tomorrow.

I'm REALLY CONFUSED now..?????  These cuts happened a week ago. The move down to 80 was last week. We covered those cuts earlier in this thread. Way up there....^^^.

You must've got "tricked" by a headline, 007.  NO NEW CUTS to the roster yet...  Expect to see the real mass movement tomorrow (Tuesday..).
