Panthers take Jaycee Horn eighth overall

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers would have loved to have had the choice to take a cornerstone left tackle.
They took what they think is a cornerstone cornerback instead.

With the eighth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Panthers selected South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Horn is the kind of physical player they're looking for at the position, an aggressive press corner who will

Horn has a chance to start immediately, especially since free agent pickup A.J. Bouye will be suspended the first two games of the regular season.

The pick was an agonizing one for the Panthers, after the Lions took Oregon tackle Penei Sewell one spot ahead of them.

I understand, and I get it.  But this pick wasn't wasted, it was another glaring need that we couldn't have picked a better option to fix it.  There are still good, solid O-Linemen left on the board, thankfully.

I feel this year in particular is incredibly important to get BPA. It's probably the last year that we get the advantage of Rhule's personal knowledge of college players. Also, with the lower cap, there will be a lot more good players available at any and every position of need.

So, as long as they felt this was BPA, the fact that it was a position of need is a bonus. I think they must have felt he was BPA if they rejected offers to trade down. But I do agree that I wish it had've been Sewell.)

Odd. The post-Cam, post-Rivera team is still yet to raft an offensive player. No complaints. In fact, I'm glad they aren't saying "Yeah but we gotta go offense." Just odd.
