Well I consider this good. (I’ll probably go nuts if we don’t go here… and would still rather trade back for Hooker)
Panthers will send 11 representatives to Ohio State's Pro Day.
This is notable considering the Panthers now hold the top overall selection in the Draft after dealing away D.J. Moore and four picks to the Bears. Clearly the team has been doing their homework on C.J. Stroud and they will now ensure they have ample eyes on one of the top rookie quarterbacks in this year's draft. Major betting markets currently place Stroud as the favorite to be selected first overall on April 27th.
Who knows who we will pick, but I think he is the safest bet.
As I've mentioned before, I think Stroud will probably be the choice. And I think he SHOULD be the choice. He's smooth, clean, and decisive.
However, there are plenty of opportunities for something to change. Bryce Young has skills, no doubt. But I have never been sold on 'short' QBs in the NFL. He's not "ready" in the same way that Stroud is. I like Levis too, but he's 'overvalued' at #1. I DO think he will turn out to be a good one though. Richardson is the 'unknown quantity'. Lots of upside, but definitely not ready. Only one year starting in college. I am not convinced.
Anyway, this is our time, our year. If not this year, we'll be waiting for awhile, making do with FAs and retreads.
Yeah, Tepper and company want to win now. I don't think they are considering trading back for Hooker or anyone else than one of the top two quarterbacks. During their press conference on Monday, they stressed the fact that they have "surrounded 'this guy' with all the tools to be successful and to win football games". It doesn't sound to me like they are looking to draft a "down the road" prospect.
CJ Stroud is my favorite with the #1 overall, and will I be upset if we draft Bryce Young? Maybe a little, for a day or two, but dang, he's great, too.
YES....
I may not have made myself clear though. When I said "this is our time, our year", I meant in the draft. I think it is highly unlikely that the Panthers will draft anywhere near the #1 spot again in the near future. If we don't draft our QB this year, we may not get the chance to do so for some years to come..
There are a lot of teams that get stuck in the doldrums, in the middle of the draft board, and end up staying there for years. I could see it happening.

Just watched the CJ Pro Day, after it was over here’s my “Silly season take”. Frank Reich went to shake his hand 3 times after. More than anyone else I saw. McCown looked super excited.

Did anyone see the video when Josh McCown was talking to CJ Stroud, and CJ offered to play McCown in a game of HORSE. McCown said, "Maybe when you live in Charlotte, we can find a court". Media outlets were all over it last night and again this morning, speculating that Josh McCown had just accidentally let a dime drop on the overall #1 pick?
