.... If he falls that far.

Cornerback Cam Smith was basically Jaycee Horn's replacement at South Carolina, and he proved himself as a stud cornerback.  He is actually more of a true cover corner than Jaycee if you ask me.

Oh, he's a dog.  He's definitely a dog!  Hard hitter, fast, quick, (there's a difference between fast and quick), and he's a ball hawk.

He is ranked #19 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he'll probably get drafted at the end of the first round or early second round. He has a grade of freaking 90 lol. Sheesh.

The ONLY thing I don't like about Cam Smith is that he won't be playing for the Gamecocks next season.

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 90.50 (All-Pro)

Pro Comparison: DeAndre Baker

Accolades:

2021: Second-team All-SEC
Tied lowest completion percentage allowed (37%) in SEC last season
Summary:

Cam Smith is a noticeably aggressive, sticky, ball-magnet outside corner. He's not an otherworldly athlete but is plenty sudden to stick with most WRs in the NFL. There's lot to like about his ball skills and overall awareness at the catch point. He has size and length, and plays with a mean streak as a tackler, which helps him get to the football more frequently than others but also leads to more missed tackles. His 2021 film was more disruptive than 2022, but teams stopped targeting him as frequently. Speed looks good, but won't be his specialty. He's best in a face-to-face press man role in the NFL, where his emphatic nature can really shine. CB1 type but not a truly elite, monstrous prospect.

Strengths:

Found the football in coverage awesomely in his career
Sticky mirroring skills
Nasty demeanor of a true No. 1 cornerback

It would be good to have another solid CB. I just don't know that he would be a better choice than an EDGE guy like  Will McDonald IV, or BJ Ojulari.

Difficult choices.
