Yesterday, the 49ers announced that their regular season quarterback depth chart is as follows.

1.  Brock Purdy (undrafted free agent one year ago)

2.  Sam Darnold (former #3 overall pick)

3.  Trey Lance (former #3 overall pick)  Trey has struggled to.... well, do "anything" in the NFL, especially this preseason.  Thinking Jamarcus Russell? It's rumored the 49ers are looking to unload him, but the question is, "Who would take him in anything other than a fire sale?"

I actually think that was a fairly fair price to pay. I hope he plays backup well, hones his skills and gets another shot at being a number one.

Also, happy for Sam. I thought he played fairly decent when he was here. Not thinking he will ever develop into a top tier QB but a high quality back up and will be a decent starter if and when needed.

For both they guys, being in the right system will be key.

UPDATE: In a rather surprising move, the 49ers have agreed to a TRADE with the Dallas Cowboys for Trey Lance, and another former Panther QB, Will Grier, seems to be the odd man out in Dallas. The Cowboys get Lance (pending a physical) for a FOURTH round 2024 Draft Pick.

Agree with First here.  This does NOT surprise me. Darnold is big. Darnold is tough. Darnold has a big arm. When given a little protection, he did OK. He's still young and has potential. It wouldn't surprise me to see him succeed in a big way.  Or.........¿Quien sabe?
