This sounds very concerning:

Hurst’s father, Jerry, posted on X (formerly Twitter) just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday that Hayden had been diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia by an independent neurologist. The news came a few hours after Hurst was seen practicing with a no-contact jersey on, typically a promising sign for a player who’s in concussion protocol. According to Hull University Teaching Hospitals, PTA is a “transient state of confusion, disorientation and memory loss that occurs immediately following a traumatic brain injury.” The condition can vary in length, per the organization: “For some it can last for minutes, whilst for others it can last for weeks or months.”

“Slow recovery, don’t know when he’ll be back,” Jerry Hurst posted on Twitter. “Prayers appreciated!”

Chris Tabor said the tight end’s health was something the team was evaluating in real time. “He’s working his way through the protocol,” Tabor said in response to a question about Hurst’s presence at Wednesday’s practice. “That was just another step of where he’s at. We’ll get an evaluation at the end of today and see how he did.” Hurst hasn’t played since Nov. 9, when the Chicago Bears defeated the Panthers. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound former USC Gamecock has since been in concussion protocol

A couple of other things here.  This was diagnosed by an independent neurologist and the team had him on the practice field yesterday. Did the team docs miss this and put him at risk?

Wonder if he is done for the year.  This is the kind of things that end careers.  See Luke. Oher.

I saw that on the news last night and it gave me serious pause. In this sport that we love so much, it is often at the long-term expense of other people's mind and body. I pray he will think long and hard before returning to the football field, IF ever. There is nothing worth you losing your body or mind over.

The information from Hurst's father is most probably correct, although I'm not sure why he would post information like that. With the HIPAA regulations the way they are, it is seldom indeed that we (fans..) get any of the backstory surrounding a player's injury status. Still, Hurst himself could release information, so I guess he has permitted his father to do so as well. The only question is --- Why.??

So, I've been following Hayden Hurst (sort of..) since he was drafted. He was a favorite of mine back in 2018 (I think..??) when he was drafted by the Ravens. He was a 1st round selection (I remember THAT..!!). Anyway, I always thought he would be a really good TE in the league, coming out of South Carolina. He's had some injuries, and now this concussion, so he hasn't really dominated like he might have in these less than optimal conditions. Still, he is a terrific talent and is absolutely fearless over the middle and in the seams.

As far as his practicing is concerned, he has NOT been cleared so he is NOT really practicing. He is walking, running, exercising, doing walk-throughs, etc. But he is restricted to non-contact on the practice field. He is wearing a red non-contact jersey. It would appear that he and the Panthers are doing everything right. I'm sure he doesn't want to aggravate his condition and if he doesn't feel right he would just go back to the locker room. HE is in control of what and how much he does on a daily basis.

I have to say here though, I definitely am concerned about his future. He has been "out" for a rather long time for a concussion type injury. That would seem to indicate a more severe situation. I really hope that he recovers completely and is able to resume his career. If not, or if he believes that "hanging up his cleats" is in his own best interest, then I understand that and support him completely. He and his doctors will make that decision.

I feel bad for Hurst. It's a sad development. This is indeed a tough game they play for their livelihood and for us fans. I'm sure he will make the right decision for himself. Sad

Hurst has said this:

Thursday, Hurst gave his own update on the injury. The tight end said in an X post, “I appreciate everyone reaching out (and) checking on me. I suffered a pretty nasty concussion against the Bears a few weeks ago (and) don’t remember up to 4 hours after the game. Scary situation but the Panthers have been incredible walking me through this process.” He added: “While it was scary, it is NOT career ending. I’m starting my return to play this week, so fingers crossed I make it back for the last few weeks! God Bless & Keep Pounding !!!!”

WOW... Boom.!!  Nicely done LP.

Good information there.  Thanks for posting that. I don't really "follow" Twitter (X) like I should, probably. I never really got into the "social media" stream of consciousness, so Twitter just passed me by more or less. I have an account. I guess I should use it... (maybe..??).

Thanks again.!!

You are welcome.  I do not follow Twitter either, just see it referenced in articles.

In regards to Hurst...sounds like his father is more concerned than he is. I read an article in the Washington Post earlier today about CTE in former Heisman winners.  Will do some copying and posting about that info later.  Scary stuff. I will drop this:

Bo Jackson .......... told USA Today he would have never played football had he known about the sport’s link to brain injuries

Seems like Dad was right.

The Carolina Panthers placed tight end Hayden Hurst, who has been dealing with post-traumatic amnesia from a concussion suffered last month, on season-ending injured reserve.

A league source said it is precautionary after Hurst missed the past four games while in the concussion protocol.

Hurst entered the protocol during the Thursday night game after taking a blow that caused his head to hit the ground. He reentered the game and wasn't placed back into the protocol until the next day.

He later was told by the independent neurologist that he was suffering from post-traumatic amnesia.

"That's what I was told by the neurologist, but sounds way worse," Hayden told ESPN.com.

Post-traumatic amnesia, according to the Cleveland Clinic, is amnesia that develops after an injury. It can involve multiple forms of amnesia. It can invoke confusion and frustration in those impacted because they have difficulty remembering where they are, how they got there or any new information since the injury.

Sounds like he should think more about his life than his football career.  That shit sounds scary.  Hoping for the best for Hurst.

DAMN... I just noticed the blurb on Panthers.com about Hurst going on IR.  This team has REALLY been "snake bit" this year. I've never seen this many season-ending injuries on one team. SMDH... Sad

Sure hope Hurst is OK. He's still a young guy, AND lots of potential if he elects to keep playing.... If not, then he still deserves our concern and support.

Just bad luck though s lots per year. 4 guards on ir. Cb n linebacker not much better till now (ilb ) a project. Db’s have played well. D n st have done well. We’ve run the ball well. Just pass the ball at a d/c+ clip. Pretty simple plan. I think it’d work, but who am I.

Agree Hob.....seems like every week there is a devastating injury.  How can 1 team have all the problems?
