So, here's a couple of questions.... Given the tendency for NFL quality players to develop in "families" ..... It seems that players with a certain historical lineage, with NFL fathers, uncles, brothers, etc., what do you think about the following possibilities..??
Somewhere in the 'later' rounds, maybe somewhere in the late 3rd, or 4th, or 5th..???
Luke McCaffrey -- WR: Probably not a 3rd rounder, especially in THIS draft with so many WRs coming out. But he has the upside and the family ties. Faster than his brother, Christian too. QB conversion. Should understand the game and the process..... Luke started out as a QB then switched to WR his final two years. So, his "scores" reflect a lesser amount of experience at the position.
Brenden Rice -- You don't get much better lineage than Jerry Rice.... Unless a team drafts him based on his name, Brenden will be a 4th, 5th rounder as well.
Comparing the two --- Brendan Rice is built slightly heavier with more mass (6'2" 208 vs 6'2" 198..) Neither one of them are lightning fast, but both move well. Both are 6'2" and have VERY similar body measurements. Differences COULD be important. McCaffrey is faster. and has better "athletic" scores from the Combine. Rice seems to run better routes. McCaffrey has great 'soft' hands and is known for leaping one-hand catches. Combine scores favor McCaffrey. Better 40 yd time; Better 10 yd split; Tie vertical; Better 3-cone; Better 20 Shuttle; Better broad jump. Rice had better Bench press with 13, McCaffrey didn't do the Bench press. Rice didn't do the 3-cone or the 20 Shuttle. OVERALL: McCaffrey was ranked 12th in Athleticism, 14th in Production, and 18th Overall WR at the Combine. Rice was ranked 29th in Athleticism, 19th in Production, and 23rd Overall Combine WR.
