T. WALLACE & C. CHERELUS -TO IR - OUT FOR SEASON

Wow... Sure is a good thing there's only three games left.  SMDH...!!!

Just announced... Trevin Wallace and Claudine Cherelus are both gone to IR.  With only three weeks left, that means they won't be back this year. 

The different and deeper question remains .... What are the Panthers going to do in the middle of the Defensive set..??  With really only Josey Jewell remaining as an ILB, the second level of our Defense is way WAY beyond the "thin" nomenclature that is used to describe such situations. We currently have Jon Rhattigan (who played his vey first D snaps this past week..), and Jacoby Windmon (??? -- I don't know..???) who was on the Practice Squad.  I don't remember Windmon playing at all this year.

So that leaves us with Josey Jewell....  Quite an interesting quandary -- wouldn't you say..??

I think we will b n more nickel.  4-1, 5-1.  Will need somebody for run downs, unless nickle n dime backs step up.  What I honestly hope.  Richardson n chau, step up!  Chance is coming.

Well, maybe. We already play WAY more Nickel, Dime, and variations than anything else. But the Nickel and Dime Defenses are pass defenses, designed mostly for man-up coverages on slot receivers as well as WRs, TEs  and variations on those. You can play a Nickel set out of a 3-4 or a 4-3 the same way you can play a DIME or a "Heavy" Goal-Line Defense out of 3-4 or a 4-3. The only thing that changes is the "Base" personnel and the responsibilities.

The Panthers play out of a 3-4 Base. A change to a 4-3 Base would change those responsibilities as well as player assignments on the Defensive LOS.  It might help our run defense -- that's all I'm saying. Not that we would line up in a 'Base" formation usually. We actually use our "Base" Defense very little. BUT, it WOULD change the lineup and the Gap and Coverage responsibilities.

In any event, there won't be any real change at this point in the season. It's MUCH too late.....
